高分子汽车材料的特性还有很多，其中也有一些不如传统材料的地方，主要缺点表现在它的刚性、耐热性和可燃烧性、耐老化性能、表面耐刻划性和抗冻性等。
2、缺点： ⑴、刚性差；
高分子建筑材料具有很好的可塑性，但它的刚性较差，因此不能将它用于要求有较大承载力的地方或作为主要的受力结构件，否则会因刚度不够引起失稳等破坏；另外，它的抗变形能力也不如天然材料加工的传统材料。
⑵、耐热性差；
耐高温性能差是高分子汽车材料的另一个主要缺点。大部分热塑性高分子汽车材料的工作温度都在摄氏80度以下，该温度以上会成为粘流态或粘流过度态，常会发生热变形，使高分子材料不能维持原来的形状和结构，性能也会发生很大变化。
⑶、抗冻性能差；
很多塑料具有冷脆性，主要表现在塑料件在冬天时用时，受到冲击力特别容易引起冲击破坏，由于这一原因使很多塑料在低温环境下的应用受到了限制。
