Nolan Barry,8,and Thomas MacKeen,9,were on their way home from school in
Atkinson,N.H.,with three other students Tuesday when their ride took a 1 turn.The driver suffered a medical emergency and 2 ,but the bus was still moving.
Nolan usually sits at the front of the bus,where he can see the driver.Because of Nolan’s 3 ,he was somewhat familiar with the bus controls.Although he forgot which button to 4 ,he figured it out in time.Fortunately,Nolan 5 the emergency braking system which also turns on the flashing red lights,putting the 6 sign and safety bar out.
But they weren’t out of the woods yet,and they couldn’t 7 how to open the
doors.Thomas was the oldest student on the bus (in the fourth grade) and he was able to 8 the other students down and get them back into their seats.

When I was young,my understanding of life was simple.This made it 1 for me to deal with the world around me.As I grew up,things seemed more 2 ,which made life more challenging.Now,middle-aged,I find my 3 of the world is returning to the simple.

What I have learned with my three teens is this:when they are testing me and pushing the limits in a way that feels more aggressive than normal teenage behavior,this is when they need some extra love and 1 .
When our kids are young and aren’t able to 2 how they are feeling,they typically behave in a way that makes it obvious that they are sad,uncomfortable,or not feeling like
