重难点单词及词组讲解： 1．measure
（1）vt. 量，测量（可以有被动语态）
The distance between the two cities had been measured. 两城之间的距离已测出。
measure the length/distance/speed 测量长度/距离/速度 measure sb. for a new suit 给某人量尺寸做一件新西装
（2）vi. 量；测量（指某物测量起来的长、宽、高、深等具体数据时不可用被动语态）
The room measures 3 metres in length. 这房间量起来3米宽。
不可说：The room is measured 3 meatres in length. （×） （3）n. 尺寸；措施；方法
①take measures to do sth. 采取措施做某事
We must take effective measures to improve our work. 我们必须采取有效措施来改进工作。 ②to one’s measure 按照某人尺寸 拓展：其它常用主动形式指被动含义的动词 （1）sell
The kind of goods sells well in the market. 这种物品在市场上畅销。
（2）wash
This kind of cloth washes easily. 这种布料好洗。 （3）write
The pen writes well. 这支钢笔很好使。 （4）fade
This kind of cloth fades easily. 这种布料容易褪色。 或This kind of cloth runs color easily. （5）weigh
The stone weighs 100kg. 这石头重量为100公斤。
2．devote vt. 把（时间、精力等）贡献给……，致力于…… 主要用法：
（1） devote oneself （one’s life, one’s time, one’s energy） to sth. /doing sth.
（=be devoted to sth. /doing sth.）把生命（时间、精力等）投入到……，专心致志于……
She devotes most of her free time to playing tennis. 她把大部分业余时间用来打网球。
The famous expert devoted himself to the cure of cancer. 那位著名专家致力于癌症的治疗。
（2）devoted adj. 疼爱的，忠实的，喜欢的
devoted主要用于be devoted to sth. /doing sth.，意为“专心致志于，忠实于……”。
注：devote…to…（be devoted to…）中的to是介词，后接名词或v.-ing形式，不接不定式。
The couple are devoted to each other. 这对夫妇彼此忠实。 a devoted friend 一位忠实的朋友
（3）devotion n.与for连用（不可数），意为“深爱，热爱”；与to连用，意为“忠实，专心”。
e.g.the devotion of a mother for her children 母亲对子女的热爱
a teacher’s devotion to the cause of education 教师对于教育事业的执著 拓展：常用的to为介词的词组 lead (cause) to 导致，引起；通向 stick to 坚持，粘住 look forward to 盼望 devote oneself to 献身于…… come close to 即将 object to 反对 pay attention to 注意
become/get/be used to 习惯于…… refer to 参考；查阅 pay a visit to 拜访
prefer…to… 更喜欢……而不…… point to 指向
on one’s way to 在去……道路上…… be addicted to 沉迷于 adapt to 适应（新环境等） adjust to 调整；适应
contribute to 有利于，为……作贡献，向……投稿 turn to 转向 keep to 坚持
get down to doing 着手去做（=set out to do sth.） appeal to 吸引（=attract） become/be/get accustomed to 习惯于 according to 根据 thanks to 由于；因为 come to 谈到

3．die out（家族、观念等）灭绝、消失；（物种）灭绝
With the death of the fifth earl, this old family had died out. 随着第五伯爵之死，这个老世家就灭绝了。 Many old customs are gradually dying out. 许多旧习俗在逐渐消失。
The use of horse on farm has almost died out in this country. 这国家的农场差不多已完全不再用马帮助做农务。 比较：die out/die away/die down/die off
It’s getting dark and the wind died away. 天渐渐黑了，风也小了。 The excitement died down. 兴奋的情绪平静了下来。
Let’s wait until the storm dies down before we go out. 让我们等到风暴缓和了后再出去。
As he got older, his relatives all died off. 随着他年纪的增长，他的亲戚都相继去世了。 用法拓展：
die为非延续性动词；death名词；dead形容词 die of 死于疾病、饥寒、情感等
die from 死于除疾病、饥寒、情感等以外的其他原因 4．at present 现在；目前
We don’t need any help at present. 目前我们不需要帮助。
