“Okay, dear,” her mother replied.
Melanie’s school matched student volunteers with people who needed help. Melanie enjoyed reading to Mrs. Taylor, who could read only large-print books.
When Melanie arrived, Mrs. Taylor handed her a letter to read. Melanie read at it quickly and said, “It’s from your niece Amanda. She’s coming next Friday.”

“Maybe we could fix it up,” Melanie suggested, “if you don’t mind.” “Mind? I’d love it!” Mrs. Taylor said. “I’ll even help.”
They spent the rest of the day working in the garden. The girls enjoyed learning how to garden, and Mrs. Taylor enjoyed sharing her knowledge.
