Listening should NOT be taken for granted(理所当然的), as it’s often thought in conversation between two or more people, that one person talking means others are listening. Sadly, this is not the truth in a variety of situations. People can get distracted from other people’s voices, by their own thoughts, by creating a plan of what to say next, or by many other variables.
Surely listening is not a looking-on sport and listening skills do affect our social, emotional and professional success.
Active listening is a communication technique that requires the listeners to understand and evaluate what they heard. As a type of structured way of talking, especially between two people, where focus is on truly hearing the communications of the other person, it’s a conversation model used in many settings. The ability to listen actively can improve personal relationships through reducing conflicts, strengthening cooperation and improving understanding.
Listening is NOT the same as hearing! Hearing is the first part and consists of the perception(感知)of sound. Listening, the second part, involves an attachment of meaning to the symbols perceived. Passive listening occurs when the receiver has little motivation to listen carefully, while active listening with a purpose is used to gain information, to determine how another person feels, and to understand others.
There are five key elements of active listening. These elements include paying attention, showing that you are listening providing feedback(反馈), delaying judgment, and responding appropriately.
There is a place to talk in an active listening mode. Listeners can encourage the flow of conversation by asking questions or by paraphrasing(释义) some of what the speaker has said. This helps the speaker reflect on his or her own words and continue with more detail to explain the issue at hand. 60. The underlined word “distracted” means . A. absent-minded B. annoyed C. warmhearted D. involved 61. What do you think of listening actively?
A. it means social, emotional and professional relationships.
B. It refers to ability of listening and talking.
C. It requires listeners to understand and judge what they heard. D. It implies that listeners must pretend to be listening. 62. When a person takers no interest in listening, . A. he will miss some meaning of the symbols B. he is only aware of sound
C. he listens to gain information D. he will show impatience immediately 63. To be an active listener, you can do all EXCEPT . A. you make it clear that you’re listening B. you must pay attention to what you’re listening to C. you can give your judgments at once D. you can make a respond at a proper time C
About a year ago, my sister started a blog(博客) in honor of her baby daughter. It took her a few hours to put it up, using the tools that are now immediately available to anyone.
It started off with a bang(用力打). She got excited and she and her husband inserted videos and other multimedia elements. I saw her baby crawl for the first time. I saw her on the beach. I saw her on Christmas morning wearing lots of clothes. I didn’t know the site’s traffic, exactly, but among the parental units, it was, briefly, all the rage. But then everyone started looking at me. My son has been alive for about 9 months, and I never started a blog in his honor. It never occurred to me.
I mean, is it a bad thing? Let’s imagine he’s president some day. Is he really going to want to be seen crawling around without any clothes on? It’s lovely, but if he’s appointed as a Supreme Court justice one day, trust me: It’ ll become an issue.
At first, I decided to make a private diary of my son. It was, and is, hidden in the depths of my computer. I haven’t made it public. My son’s two teeth: They entered the world about a month and a half ago. I got excited when he started saying “dada”, but then, I realized the lesson of so many parents before me: that “dada” doesn’t mean father, It’s a term best used as a similar sound.
At one point, he was becoming a very good walker, and, dare I say, he was actually taking his first steps. I think I got him to stand for about five seconds. If I’d been keeping a blog, I would have announced that immediately to all my friends. I guess people write blogs to capture(捕获) those minor, but meaningful acts in a baby’s life: the crawls, the broken sentence and so on. 64. What is the author’s idea about blogging about babies? A. He agrees with what his sister has done.
B. He doesn’t think it a good idea to blog about babies. C. He would rather take pictures of his babies. D. He will share with others about his babies. 65. How about his sister’s blog about baby?
A. It was put up poorly and narrowly. B. It came out welcome at the beginning. C. It was only made up of photos and videos. D. It was started off on Christmas morning. 66. The author became excited because . A. his baby began to speak clearly B. his baby was able to pronounce the word “daddy” C. his baby came into the world safe D. his baby started babbling 67. Why do people write blogs about their babies?
A. To tell the world how lovely their babies are. B. To document every step of their child’s development. C. To remind themselves of the lovely baby. D. To announce what will happen to friends.
D
A new study of 8,000 young people in the Journal of Health and Social Behavior shows that although love can make adults live healthily and happily, it is a bad thing for young people. Puppy love(早恋) may bring stress for young people and can lead to depression(忧郁症). The study shows that girls become more depressed than boys, and younger girls are worst of all.
The possible reason for the connection between love and higher risk of depression for girls is “loss of self”. According to the study, even though boys would say “lose themselves in a romantic relationship”, this “loss of
self” is much more likely to lead to depression when it happens to girls. Young girls who have romantic relationships usually like hiding their feelings and opinions. They won’t tell that to their parents.
Dr Marianm Kaufman, an expert on young people problems, says 15% to 20% young people will have depression during their growing.. Trying romance often causes the depression. She advises kids not to jump into romance too early. During growing up, it is important for young people to build strong friendships and a strong sense of self. She also suggests the parents should encourage their kids to keep close to their friends, attend more interesting school activities and spend enough time with family.
Parents should watch for signs of depression-eating or mood changes-and if they see signs from their daughters or sons, they need to give help. The good news is that the connection between romance and depression seems to become weak with age. Love will always make us feel young, but only maturity(成熟)gives us a chance to avoid its bad side effects. 68. What’s the main idea of the passage?
A. Puppy love may bring young people depression.
B. Parents should forbid their children’s love. C. Romance is a two-edged sword for adults. D. Romance is good for young people.
69. Which of the following is more likely to have depression? A. Young people who have a strong sense of self.
B. Young boys whose parents watch for their behavior. C. Young girls who always hide their feelings and opinions. D. Careless parents whose children are deep in love. 70. What can be inferred from the passage?
A. Lacking love can lead young people to grow up more quickly.
B. Early love makes young people keep close to their friends and parents. C. Parents should help their children to be aware of the signs of depression. D. The older a woman is, the less likely she seems to lose herself in romance. 71. What’s the author’s attitude towards puppy love?

As you move around your home, take a good look at the things you have. It is likely that your living room will have a television set and a video, and your kitchen a washing machine and a microwave oven. Your bedroom drawers will be filled with almost three times as many clothes as you need. You almost certainly own a car and possibly a home computer, holiday abroad at least once a year and eat out at least once a week.
Now, perhaps, more than ever before, people are wondering what life is all about, and what it is for. Seeking material success is beginning to trouble large numbers of people around the world. They feel that the long hours work culture to make more money is eating up their lives, leaving them very little time or energy for family or pastimes. Many are turning to other ways of living and downshifting is one of them. Six percent of workers in Britain took the decision to downshift last year.
One couple who downshifted is Daniel and Liz. They used to work in central London. He was a newspaper reporter and she used to work for an international bank. They would go to work by train every day from their large house in the suburbs, leaving their two children with a nanny. Most evenings Daniel wouldn’t get home until eight or nine o’clock and nearly twice a month he would have to fly to New York for meetings. They both earned a large amount of money but began to feel that life was passing them by.
Nowadays, they run a farm in the mountains of Wales. “I always wanted to have a farm then,” says Daniel, “and we took almost a year to make the decision to downshift. It’s taken some getting used to, but it’s
been worth it. We have to think twice now about spending money on car repairs and we no longer have any holidays. However, I think it’s made us stronger as a family, and the children are a lot happier.
Liz, however, is not quite sure. “I used to enjoy my job, even though it was hard work and long hours. I’m not really a country girl, but I suppose I’m gradually getting used to looking after the animals. One thing I do like, though, is being able to see more of my children. My advice for other people wanting to do the same is not to think about it too much or you might not do it at all.” 72.When Daniel was a reporter he ___.
A.lived in central London B.disliked his job C.missed his children D.was well paid 73.Daniel and Liz both agree that the move to the farm ____.
A.was easy to organize B.has improved family life C.was extremely expensive D.has been a total success

lives” in the second paragraph?
A.People work long hours to earn their living.
B.To make more money through hard work is the aim of people’s life. C.Long hours of hard work occupy too much of people’s life. One possible version: Good afternoon, everyone,
Hundreds of millions of students from primary, middle schools and universities all over China joined in a national student sports program. Eleven million students in Shandong took an active part in this program.
The ministry of Education calls on students to exercise for an hour every day, in the hope that they will have good health to work fifty years and enjoy the whole life.
Personally, I think it a good idea for us senior students to have daily exercise. Although we take an hour a day for exercise, it is well worth it. Taking exercise helps us build up our body and keep a clear mind. Therefore we can work more efficiently.
Thank you!
