The words and expressions students are supposed to master: Career, profession, job, occupation

I took this new job because I felt that the career prospects were much better. Elaine has become a real career woman/girl.

He left the teaching profession in 1965 to set up his own business. The builders are aiming to get the job done by the end of the month. In the space marked 'occupation' she wrote 'police officer'.

alternative

I wanted to go out, but I had no money. I had no alternative to staying at home. We have no alternative but to go on.

The way was blocked, so we went by an alternative road. alter v. alternate

complacency

Formula

Plural: formulas or formulae

implication

imply,implicate, implicit, implicative

His manner of speaking implies that he was not willing to accept the agreement. \ The police found a letter which implicated him in the robbery.

insight

It was an interesting book, full of fascinating insights into human relationships. ● insightful

Instability

Stable-unstable- instability

● emotional / political/ economic instability.

The building's instability makes it extremely dangerous.

After several part-time jobs, he's now got a stable job in a bank.

moral immoral; morality, immorality, morale moral, ethical, virtuous: the basic moral values of a community

The article questions the ethical conduct of certain journalists, who are claimed to have used threats in order to obtain interviews.

He is not conventionally religious, but he’s virtuous in all other respects.

pursue pursue (FOLLOW)

He was killed by the driver of a stolen car who was being hotly pursued by the police. We will not be pursuing this matter any further.

He's been pursuing her for months and yet she's so clearly not interested. pursue (ATTEMPT)

He decided to pursue a career in television.

We need to decide soon what marketing strategy we should pursue for these new products. Michael Evans is leaving the company to pursue his own business interests. ● pursuit

resort A month of holidays in the summer resort will certainly bring you around. This restaurant is my favorite resort.
