Title: Relation Between Philosophy and Language
Introduction (Background & Literature Review)
One main task of philosophy is knowing people, while linguists realize that the language research can reveal people’s mind. Linguistics and Philosophy share one feature, that they both aim to understand people.
Research Questions
Are there many philosophy problems arising from the abuse of language? Can the development of language enhance the development of philosophy? How to treat the relation between philosophy and linguistics?
Methodology
I use corpus-based study to do research. During the research, I collect written texts, and recorded speeches. Most importantly, I use an electronic database: CNKI(China Knowledge Resource Integrated Database). There are many processing operations we can perform on the corpus with the computer, each serving a unique research purpose. The first operation is the frequency check. We can compare, with the tool of a frequency counter, which words rank among the most frequently used ones in two or more corpora, or with what frequency a certain word or a set of words occur in each of the corpora. Such a comparison is very helpful in making judgments. Incidentally, with the information on how frequently a content word occurs in a single text, one can determine how central it is to the theme of the text.
Anticipated Findings
The relation between linguistics and philosophy is interactive. The two affect each other, infiltrate mutually, and have a reciprocal improvement. Linguistics and philosophy are focus on the world, human beings, society and knowledge. Philosophy contributes to linguistics in making clear some philosophy problems resulting from abuse of the language. Linguistics and philosophy are unalienable. Every step of philosophy is an accumulative process to develop linguistics. Furthermore, philosophy enlarge the research field of linguistics.
