Lecture: Teaching is learning

Good morning/afternoon, ladies and gentlemen,
It's my great honor to stand here and give a speech that teaching is learning. I would like to illustrate my opinions from three aspects, learning from students, learning from colleagues, and doing lifelong self-study.
我很荣幸能站在这里并发表演讲,我所演讲的题目是教即是学。我想从三个方面来阐述我的观点,即向学生学习,向同事学习以及终身学习。
First of all, as teachers, we are also influenced by our students when teach or communicate with them. On the one hand, we have to find proper teaching methods by researching, analyzing, and stimulating students' English learning interests. During this process, teachers continuously adjust teaching skills on the basis of students' reactions. On the other hand, teaching is an activity of interaction. According to a Latin America educator--Freire Paulo, he states education should be a dialogical process, in which the relationship between students and teachers is equality and liberty, instead of an unequal relationship which the spoon-feeding is. His book stresses that an ideal education system is student and teacher learning together, which follows the students’ centered education, rather than the spoon-feeding which is teacher-centered.In the meanwhile, it's also corresponding to the Chinese new curriculum standard .We need to
abandon the traditional teaching methods which is overstressing grammar and vocabulary. The teaching method of the spoon-feeding should be replaced by developing students' English learning interests.
首先,作为老师,在传授知识时或与学生交流时,我们不可避免地也会受到学生的影响。一方面,为了找到并采用适当的教学方法,我们不得不通过调查,分析和激发学生的兴趣来进行。在此过程中,老师会根据学生的反应而自发地、不断地调整自己的教学技巧。从另一方面来看,学习其实是个互动的过程。根据一位拉丁美洲著名教育家的观点,他指出,教育应该是一个对话的过程,其中师生之间的关系是平等、自由的,而不是填鸭式的不平等关系。在他的书中强调,最理想的教育体系是学生和教师共同学习,它遵循转型教育的发展,以替代传播式教育即填鸭式教育仅以老师为课堂的中心。同时教即学的理念,也与中国新的课程标准相对应,新课标要求我们摒弃过度强调语法和词汇的传统教学法,以通过培养学生的英语学习兴趣来代替单项灌输、传播式教育。
Secondly, I believe two heads are better than one. Drawing on the wisdom of peer teachers can contribute to our teaching .Colleagues with different education and living background share their experience of successes and problems in the teaching profession. This process can be seen as a learning process that we exchange various ideas about how to help students to learn, how to teach different English level of students, what’s kind of teaching skills we could use. Usually, there are two ways
that we improve and carry out our teaching in daily life. One is intergroup for preparing same lesson together. Through holding discussions, we study together, share different ideas, and fill leaks. Another way is the teaching competition. The relationship of competition is also a good way to help teachers to promote teaching techniques and do self-study.By attending others’ class, we can learn different teaching methods and teaching design.
其次,我相信三人行必有我师焉。借鉴同龄教师的智慧,可以为我们的教学做出贡献。有着不同教育背景,生活环境的同事们,他们分享在教学中成功和遇到的问题,然后相互学习。教即是学在这一部分体现在两种方式上。我们通常有两种方法。一是组织备课小组。通过举办研讨会和参加彼此的课堂,我们共同学习,分享不同的想法并查漏补缺,讨论教学的过程实则是相互学习的过程,实现双赢。在参予此次课程的情况下,作为主讲人,我们可以收集大量有价值的反馈意见,这些反馈意见可以有效地提高我们的课程和教学技能。另一种方式是教学竞赛。竞争关系是帮助老师提升教自身教学技巧和进行自学的好方法。通过参与参赛选手的课程,我们可以学到不同的教学方法和教学设计。
About self-study, language teaching requires continuous learning for the simple reason that language itself is constantly changing. Language is updated every day. New words and expressions spring up in all sorts of media. Even the grammar of a language is on the way to changing. Our
textbooks are adapted each term to keep up with the latest trend. At the same time, teacher self-efficacy is a belief and understanding which comes through teaching to express. It not only affects the development of students' scores, learning ability, and self-efficacy but also influences the organization of teachers' teaching activities, their physical health, and professional development. Therefore, it is necessary to improve teachers' own storage of knowledge and professional quality to enhance their self-efficacy and have a lifelong study.
关于自学能力,语言教学需要不断学习,原因很简单,因为语言本身就是不断地变化着。语言每天更新。在各种媒体中涌现出新单词和新词,甚至很多语言的语法也在改变着。我们的练习册图书每学期都会进行调整,以跟上最新趋势。同时,教师自我效能感即通过教学表达对教育的信念和理解。它不仅影响学生的成绩,学习能力和他们的自我效能发展,而且影响教师的教学活动,身体健康和专业发展。因此,教师们有必要提高自身的知识存储和专业素质,以提高他们的自我效能感和追求终身学习目标。
