15:00 Topic 1: Promote Cooperation in Science, Technology & Innovation for Sustainable Development in ASEM Countries (Chaired by Leader from China Ministry of Science and Technology) In order to facilitate Asian-European sustainable development, build energy efficient and environmentally friendly society, and address global challenges, ASEM countries need to strengthen policy dialogues and industrial cooperation on science, technology and innovation, accelerate commercialization of scientific and technological innovation achievements, and promote transnational and trans-regional technology transfer and innovation cooperation.

Currently, Asian and European countries are in different levels of innovation. Developed countries have technology while emerging countries can provide markets. There triggers practical needs for technology transfer. Meanwhile, with the continuous improvement of research capacity in developing countries, technology transfer should enter a new stage instead of simple technology and market exchange. Given the above-mentioned situation, this part will discuss the following questions:

- What’s the current situation of Asian-European cooperation in science, technology and innovation?

- Is there more space for their cooperation?

- What’s the bottleneck in the practice of their cooperation? - Whether is it necessary to further their cooperation?

- How can emerging economies better use their market potential and technical backwardness in the new era?

It requires examining technological cooperation directions to determine Asian-European cooperation directions, which vary with global economic integration and rapid development of science and technology.

What new requirements do globalization, Internet and Internet-based third revolution of science and technology propose for Asian-European cooperation in science and technology innovation? What influences will new trends in science and technology innovation bring for Asian-European cooperation? This part, centered on available patterns for technology transfer, will discuss the following questions: What successful experience and cooperation patterns do Asian and European government organizations, enterprises and research institutions accumulate in international technology transfer and innovation cooperation? What experience do joint trans-regional R&D centers, technology transfer centers, incubators and other cooperation platforms accumulate in their transnational technology transfer practice? What are the effective factors behind those successful cases?
