Plenty of things can cause stress in a kid’s life.The trick is to remember that some types of stress are good and others are bad.Good or normal stress might show up when you’re called on in class or when you have to give a report。Have you ever gotten butterflies in your stomach or sweaty hands? Those can be signs of good stress.the kind of stress that can help you to get things done.For example,you may do a better job on your book report if the anxiety(焦虑)makes you prepare well before you get up and read it to the class.But bad stress can happen if the stressful feelings keep going over time.You may not feel well if your parents are fighting,if a family member is sick,if you’re having problems at school,or if you’re going through anything else that makes you upset every day.That kind of stress isn’t going to help you,and it can actually make you sick.

When you're feeling stressed,there are several things you can do.You can talk about your problems with an adult you trust,like a parent or teacher.Bring up what’s been on your mind and how it makes you feel.An adult may have ideas about how to solve whatever is worrying you or making you uncomfortable.

Iraqi Children during the War

We often see that many people in Iraq(伊拉克)suffer from the war on TV.One of yesterday’s news was about a four—year—old girl in Iraq.She was lying in the arms of a doctor.She had just lost her mother.Her pink clothes were dirty with blood and her face was covered with dust and tears.

Every day we call see pictures like this on television.We see Iraqi children begging for food

eight—year—old son.He tries to make him feel safe by saying,“The bombs are far away from us.The Americans are fighting with the Iraqi soldiers only.We’re going to be all right.Everything will be OK.”Even though the father knows it isn’t true,he can do nothing else.

In Baghdad,parents give their children sleeping pills to try to let them sleep soundly so that they will not hear the sound of bombs.And all the schools are closed.

People’s Moods and Their Health

Recently some American scientists made an experiment.They drew into test tubes(试管)people’s breath under different moods,and then put the test tubes in a container filled with ice and water.When breath turned into liquid,scientists found that when a person is relaxed,his breath is clear.When he is sad,white sediment(沉淀物)appears.When someone feels worried about something.the breath looks cream—colored.And when he is angry,it is purple.After the liquid with purple sediment was injected(注射)into a white rat,it died in several minutes.After further study,scientist found out that if a person remains angry for ten minutes,he will use up much energy as he does after running hundred meters.Anger leads to strong reaction and produces very poisonous secretion(分泌物).Obviously anger is really bad for people’s health.
