Test 1

[2024·合肥市高三第二次诊断检测]Will there be an outbreak of bird flu that threatens humans? Many experts disagree on when or whether a human pandemic (大流行病) will occur, but do say there is a chance that the virus could mutate (变异), leading to widespread infection. __1__ Here's what you need to know to help keep yourself healthy.

Stock up on food, water and household supplies. If there is a bird flu pandemic, you'll want to minimize your chance of catching it by staying indoors; you might even be required to stay home if the government asks that people remain in quarantine (隔离期). You'd better stock up today on at least 2-week worth of essentials such as water, food, emergency and medical supplies. __2__ Have an outbreak plan. It may feel odd or uncomfortable to talk to family members and loved ones about the worst-case pandemic scenario(预测). But if that scenario strikes, you'll all be much

better off if you have a plan decided on and ready. __3__ Figure out how you would care for them and what your first response and responsibilities would be; this is an especially important conversation with those with special care needs.

__4__ Things like keeping a balanced diet, exercising regularly and getting sufficient rest can help keep you healthy in an outbreak and also keep you from catching the common cold. Particularly in a flu outbreak situation, it will be important to wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Be diligent about covering coughs and sneezes with tissues.

Moreover, know your essential health information such as your blood type, allergies, and past or current medical conditions. Make a list of that essential information for all the members of your family. __5__ And do make sure everyone in your household knows where to find it. A.Work out regularly to stay slim.

B.Pick up the habits of healthy behavior.

C.It is wise to keep it somewhere safe and visible.

D.It's important to ask yourself these questions before a pandemic occurs. E.Talk with your friends and family about how you'd respond to an epidemic. F.In that case, the best thing you can do right now is to prepare for that possibility. G.That will help you get through an extended time at home if an outbreak happens.

Test 2

[2024·沈阳市教学质量监测(一)]Leading a sustainable (不破坏环境的) lifestyle doesn't require you to have to make great changes to your home, and this kind of transformation doesn't have to be an exhausting exercise. __1__ Here are three of them. __2__ By using solar energy, you will make your home far more sustainable. So long as there is the sun in the sky, the solar panels atop your house will catch the rays and then transform them into electricity.

Make changes to your water drinking habits. Have you ever thought about how many single-use

plastic bottles you use a year? If you should ever perform such a count, you'd find yourself well into three figures, or maybe even four. __3__ To be truly sustainable, you've to change your water drinking habits.

__4__ More often than not, these types of straws are used only once before being got rid of and taking up valuable landfill space.

Reduce your transport emission (排放). If you want to be a more sustainable traveller, you should seek to reduce the carbon emissions you produce by avoiding driving. Of course, avoiding motor vehicles entirely isn't always going to be a practical choice for you. There're, however, still things you can do to be more sustainable. __5__

You have the power to make a sustainable change to your lifestyle—take the above advice and don't waste it.

A.Turn to solar energy.

B.Avoid wasting valuable resources.

C.The best thing you can do is to cycle, walk, or run.

D.Two choices you have are sharing cars and taking public transport.

E.There're many easy and simple things you can do to be more sustainable. F.Another change you can make in this instance is to stop using plastic straws.

G.Drinking water like this might be quick, easy and convenient, but it's not sustainable.

Test 3

[2024·深圳市高三第二次检测]You know that eating healthily, staying active, and playing a few brain games can help you have a good memory. But the following lesser-known habits work wonders too.

1.__1__ When we sit with our shoulders bent forward, this position actually causes us to feel anxious or depressed—which makes it harder to think clearly and remember things. Conversely(反过来), an upright posture apparently improves the memory because it boosts the blood and oxygen flow to the brain.

2.Exercise—Once

Having trouble remembering faces? __2__ In a study, pictures of faces were shown to older folks after they pedal a stationary (固定的) bike at an intense pace or simply sit on a self-pedaling bike. On

average, people remembered the faces better after the intense exercise. What's more, the memory gains after a single workout were similar to the gains after three months of regular exercise.

3.Limit TV Time

Every parent and every grandparent has heard that too much screen time can hurt a child's cognitive development. __3__ According to a study, people (aged 50 or older) who watched TV for more than 3.5 hours a day for 6 years experienced a greater drop in verbal memory test scores than those who watched less.

4.Draw Aimlessly

Research showed those who drew the words remembered the most when recalling words. That's because while some parts of the brain about getting memory back become worse as people grow older, the picture processing regions usually don't. __4__ 5.Walk Backward

__5__ Walk back! Backward motion—whether real, imagined, or watched—helps people remember the information better than sitting still and, in most cases, better than forward motion. It may be that moving backward in space mentally helps us move back in time to the moment when we learned something.

A.Sit Straight. B.Stand Straight.

C.Start more workouts.

D.Sweat for physical training.

E.Thus sketching can help adults have a good memory. F.But what about those at the other end of their lifespans?

G.Next time you're trying to recall something, don't just think back.

Test 4

[2024·济南市高三年级学习质量评估]Much like the season itself, the fresh fruits of the summer often don't remain long as we want them to. All too often, you reach into the fridge and find that the strawberries you purchased just a few days ago have turned moldy (发霉的). __1__ Vinegar has an extensive and ever-increasing list of household uses. Because it is non-poisonous,

unlike other washes, it can be used to clean fresh fruits. __2__ Putting the fruit in the mixture of one part vinegar and three parts water can remove 98 percent of bacteria. It will make the fruit much cleaner than it was when washed with an antibacterial wash or with water alone. __3__ By following the same process, you can prevent the growth of mold for far longer than if you haven't washed them with the mixture. But be careful: this trick doesn't kill any mold that has already grown. __4__ Besides, try to make the strawberries as dry as possible before storing them in the fridge. You can pat them dry with paper towel, and then pack them away in a clean container.

__5__ Actually, there is a simple solution to your concern. A thorough wash with plain water afterward will ensure there are no unwanted tastes left.

A.So make sure you do it before they go bad. B.Yet, many washes can keep them fresh longer. C.You may worry your berries will taste like vinegar. D.So you may not really need those pricey washes at all.

E.It is even more effective in cleaning fruits than most washes.
