PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a CCD solid-state image pick up device where a small signal transfer channel forming channel barrier is provided to a horizontal transfer register, wherein the image pick up device is restrained from decreasing in amount of operating charge due to that the channel barrier is provided and enhanced in transfer efficiency under a signal output gate. ;SOLUTION: A
channel barrier 17 is provided only to the output part of a horizontal transfer register 4 but not provided to a part of the transfer register 4 corresponding to an effective picture element part. A small signal transfer channel 27 is equal to the
horizontal transfer register 4 in width at its part closest to the transfer register 4 (transfer source) and made to become gradually narrower toward an output side (transfer target) till reaching a horizontal signal output gate 10. With a gradual reduction in width, the horizontal transfer register 4 is made to become gradually longer in gate length in inverse proportion to a distance from an output side.
