你见过一个帐篷世界吗?你能体会到帐篷里的生活吗?
Xiang Xiaowen is a student who survived the earthquake in China’s Sichuan Province. Like thousands of others, she is now living in a tent in the hard-hitting city of Mianyang.
We are now sleeping in a tent city.
The earthquake happened last Monday and our dorms (寝室)were destroyed. There are four tent cities. Everybody is sleeping under tents.
The tents are so wet and we feel so cold. Many students feel uncomfortable but we must live in the tent. Although there are many difficulties after the earthquake, we will do our best to overcome them.
Yesterday it rained all day. Today the weather is better.
There are no canteens and supermarkets so we must cook for ourselves. We have got some food and vegetables to eat.
After the earthquake, many students and I together cleaned all the rubble (瓦砾)from our classroom and our dorms. Many of the dorms were destroyed and there was a lot of rubble which we had to clear.
Some students are helping at hospital. Many people are homeless and many are dead. We carried the injured to hospital. There were no buses so we walked to hospital. Many people tried their best to make sure people could live.
With the injured, we first let them calm down and then we took them to hospital. Today, I think people have enough food and drinking water. I think things will be better now.

When you want to buy or rent a house, you are expecting not only the good quality of the house itself but also the nice neighbors who live near you. Almost everyone agrees that it is helpful to live with some good neighbors. However, the standard of good neighbors is different from people to people. In my opinion, a good neighbor should be someone that respects (尊敬) your life, is ready to help others and concerns about the environment in the neighborhood.
First of all, it is very important for your neighbor to respect your life. Just
imagine, if you have a neighbor who is curious (好奇的)about you, especially your personal life, and tries to know more about it by whatever means, what will you feel? What is more, he or she may also talk with others about your life. Do you want to live with him or her anymore? The answer is definitely not. You will feel very uncomfortable to have such kind of people in your neighborhood and you may move as soon as possible.
Next, a good neighbor is always willing to give you a hand when you need him or her. For example, if you are not at home and someone suspect (可疑的) tries to unlock your door, your neighbor who sees it should call 911, and it will help you to protect your property.
Finally, a good neighbor should be concerned about the environment, especially around your neighborhood. He or she should throw all the rubbish into garbage and keep the place clean, because a good environment can make people who live in it comfortable and relaxed all the time.
Therefore, it is very important for a neighbor to have such qualities as above. 9. The following are the qualities of a good neighbor EXCEPT ______.

A. feel happy B. know more about him/her C. become his/her friend D. not be comfortable 12. The passage mainly tells us about __________.
A. the qualities of a good neighbor
B. the differences between good neighbors and bad neighbors C. the importance of a good environment D. how to get along with our neighbors D

She was teaching at a private school where she was paid by the parents, but it made her sad to see other children whose parents could not afford their fees. So she offered to teach those children without pay if the town would provide a place for her to teach. Soon she had 600 students!
When the Civil War started, she wanted to help the soldiers, so she gave up her job. She got permission from the War Department to go to the front line (前线) of the battlefield. She was called the angel of the battlefield. She almost lost her life, but she continued to serve.
In Europe, they had an organization called the International Red Cross. She saw the good work they were doing, and when she returned to America three years later, she began working to get the Red Cross set up in the United States. She gave speeches and talked to people in the government. After eight years of hard work, she set up the American Red Cross and served as its president for 23 years.
At first, the Red Cross only served soldiers, but Clara saw that others needed help when floods, earthquakes, and other disasters happened. Today we see the Red Cross at work when we have disasters. The dedication (奉献) and generosity of one woman, Clara Barton, has had great effects.
