《英语教学法》(上)模拟试卷

Design a lesson of 45 minutes for a group of senior middle school students using the text given. The main focus of your text is to train reading skills. Follow the steps below.

Make sure you understand the purpose of the text and design your tasks accordingly.

That is to say, think about why the author wrote the text and for whom, and therefore why would your students read it.

Design pre-reading, while-reading and post-reading tasks for the students.

Include tasks to train the skills of skimming, scanning, reading for detail and inferring

the author’s meaning.

Include some vocabulary development tasks. Decide if you need to teach any words

before the students read the text. decide if it is possible to use this text to train the students to work out some words from the context.

Decide if it is necessary for you to give information to or elicit information from the

students about the topic before the text is read.

Your post-reading tasks should be appropriate to the purpose of the text and should

consolidate the language learnt from it.

1. Fill in the first page of your answer sheet with a

brief description of each activity and give the purpose (objectives) of each one.

2. Make sure each activity is in the correct place on the form: pre-while, or

post-reading stage.

3. Make sure all your activities are numbered. 4. On the next pages write out each activity in full, making sure that each one

is numbered again. Include all the questions asked or tasks that the students have to follow, so that your examiner can see exactly what the student has to do.

5. include clear instructions for a teacher to use these activities: the

interaction patterns (whole class/plenary, pairs, size of groups, individual), an appropriate timing, how the answers are to be checked, etc)

6. Include an answer key for all the activities that have set answers, but not

for those that are left open.

Evenings with the Family------Present and Past

1. what happens in the typical American home every evening after dinner? First, everyone

argues about who is going to do the dishes. Then the loser of the argument goes into the kitchen while the rest of family disappears into the living room or their own rooms. They

will spend the next several hours sitting there. They may make a quick trip to the kitchen for a snack something during the evening, but other than that they hardly move. Even if two or more family members are in the same room, they are quiet; nobody says much to anyone. What are they doing? They are watching TV. All evening long, the “boob tube” is the center of everyone’s attention.

when I was a child, we used to spend hot summer evenings on the front porch of our house. We didn’t have air-conditioning, so the house was always too warm after dinner; but there was usually a cool, pleasant breeze out on the porch. We children used to play games or read comic books there while my father sat in his rocking chair and rocked back and forth for hours. Sometimes he smoked his pipe or did the crossword puzzle from the newspaper. Mother used to use a paper fan when there was no breeze. Sometimes she cleaned strawberries. Then, later in the evening, she took them into the kitchen and reappeared in a few minutes with big dishes of strawberries and cream.

The front porch was also a kind of social center. There were specially “rules” for evenings on the porch. Everyone knew the rules, but nobody said anything about them. For example, when people in our town took walks on summer evenings, they often stopped for a moment at the bottom step of porch. This pause was almost a social rule; it was like a knock on the front door. Then my father always said, “come on up and sit down!” this was another “rule”: he always used those exact words. Then Mother brought out lemonade or iced tea never coffee or juice lor alcohol. Everyone talked about the local baseball team, gardening, and the hot weather; we children learned our first lessons in small talk on the porch.
