Lesson 44 Through the forest 穿过森林

How did Mrs. Sterling get her bag back?

Mrs. Anne Sterling did not think of the risk she was taking when she ran through a forest after two men. They had rushed up to her while she was having a picnic at the edge of a forest with her children and tried to steal her handbag. In the struggle, the strap broke and, with the bag in their possession, both men started running through the trees. Mrs. Sterling got so angry that she ran after them. She was soon out of breath, but she continued to run. When she caught up with them, she saw that they had sat down and were going through the contents of the bag, so she ran straight at them. The men got such a fright that they dropped the bag and ran away. 'The strap needs mending,' said Mrs. Sterling later, 'but they did not steal anything.' 参考译文

关键句型Key structures 动名词 1．作主语：

例 They began running.

总结：有些动词后面加to do或doing含义没有什么区别。 (began/start/continue)

例: I love sitting in the garden when it is fine. 当天气好的时候我喜欢坐在花园里面。 I like sitting in the garden when it is fine. I hate disturbing people when they 're busy. 当与别人忙的时候，我不愿意打扰别人。

I hate to disturb you , but can I come in for a moment . please? 我不愿意打扰你 但是我能进来一会吗？

总结：在有些动词后面，如like， love， hate等，后面加to do 表示目前一次性的喜好，加doing作宾语表长期性的喜好 例： My shirt is torn. It needs mending. 我的衬衫破了，它需要修补。 It needs to be mended.

Those windows are dirty. They want washing. 那些窗子脏了，它们需要清洗。 They want to be washed. 4．作表语：
