即墨市长江路小学 赵丽凤
Good morning, dear teachers:
I am number 3. It’s my great pleasure to be here sharing my teaching ideas with you. It is part A Let’s talk of unit 4, PEP primary English, book 4 for grade 4 students. The title is At a farm. I divide it into 4 parts. Part 1 Analysis of the teaching material and students: 1. Function and position of this lesson.
This lesson is about animal topic. By study of this unit, Ss can know how to ask and answer Qs about animal in English with simple words and sentences. The sentence patterns of this lesson “Are they sheep?” “Yes, they are.” “No, they aren’t.” are the key and difficult points of this unit. The study of this lesson will help the Ss with daily communication. 2. Teaching aims
According to the new national English curriculum, I set 3 aims.
(1) Aims on knowledge: Ss are able to hear, read, and use the main sentence patterns “Are they sheep?” “Yes, they are.” “No, they aren’t.” and understand and read the conversation of the lesson.
(2) Aims on ability: Ss can use the patterns to communicate with others well and express their thoughts in the proper scene.
(3) Aims on emotion: After the course, Ss can increase their interest and set up self -confidence in language study and cultivate their competitive spirit. 3. Teaching importance and difficulty
The importance and difficulty are the study and application of the sentence patterns “Are they …?” “Yes, they are.” “No, they aren’t.” Part 2 Teaching and studying methods
The main instructional aims of learning English in Primary School are to cultivate students’ abilities of listening, speaking, reading, writing and their good sense of English language. So I choose CLT in my class. Ss are the center of all teaching activities. They should take an active part in learning process. Part 3 teaching procedures
According to the teaching aims, I set 6 steps. Step1 Warm up
1. Let’s do with the Ss at P70.
2. We’ll have a free talk between T-S and Ss-Ss.
The purpose here is in order to form better English surrounding and cultivate Ss’s interest by doing some TPR. Step2 Presentation
1. I’ll lead the Ss to answer some questions about let’s learn, such as“What are they?”Then describe like that“The farm is so big. I love animals, do you love animals?”Then tell them“Our friends love animals, too. They’re at a farm.”Then I’ll play the tape with the question“Who’re they?”
Here it is in order to let the Ss have an overall recognition about the dialogue. 2. When Ss find out the three children, I’ll show them picture 1, and tell them Mike is asking some questions to the farmer. What question can he ask? Let Ss guess, then I’ll play the tape to lead them to find Mike’s questions“Are they horses? No, they aren’t.”Teach the sentences and write them on the blackboard.
3. I’ll talk to the Ss“How about Sarah? If you’re Sarah, what will you ask the farmer? Suppose you and your partner are Sarah and the farmer, make a dialogue by yourselves.”After their performance, I’ll play the tape of picture 2, and teach the word“donkey”here. I’ll show “monkey”to the Ss to help them remember the pronunciation.
4. Let the Ss listen to the tape and find out John’s questions“How many cows do you have?”Then teach the pronunciation of “hundred”.
5. This time I’ll play the tape of the whole dialogue with the question“What animals are at the farm?”Let the Ss find out “goats, donkeys, hens and cows”. Meanwhile, guide the Ss to pay attention to that the sheep and horses are not at this farm.
Purpose: The pupils can understand this dialogue step by step, by setting the reading tasks from easy to difficult. Step3 Practice
1. I’ll play the tape, let Ss listen and imitate, and ask them to pay attention to the pronunciation and intonation. Then let them have a show.
2. I’ll design a guessing game to lead the Ss practice the main sentence structures.
Purpose: It can help the Ss consolidate the sentence patterns well. Step4 Production
I’ll show the Ss a picture of QQ farm, guide them to talk about with their partners.
Purpose: It can help the Ss use the sentence patterns in the real situation. Step5 Summary
I’ll encourage the Ss to summarize what they have got in this class. Step6 Homework
I’ll give them some assignments. 1. Listen to the tape twice, try to imitate.
2. To be a little teacher, teach their parents what they have learned today. Part 4 Blackboard design
Unit6 At a farm Are they sheep? Yes, they are. No, they aren’t.
That’s all my teaching ideas. Thanks for your listening.
