Unit 5 Food

Field Work ? Work in groups.

? Search available sources for local special recipes.

? Work out a family dinner menu with introductions to the recipes, and prepare for

an in-class presentation. Objectives: ? Ss develop research skills and strategies. ? Ss develop teamwork skills.

? Ss develop competence in organizing information. Steps: ? Set guidelines for time and procedures for the project appropriate to Ss’ ability

level.

? Ss brainstorm possible resources (e.g. the school library, Internet, etc.) for photo

album samples and extra information.

? Divide the class into groups. Give groups guidelines for managing the task and

the deadline for completion. The group decides who will do what and who will keep a log of its activities.

? Encourage Ss to get information from people around them using interview skills

they have tried in previous units.

? Remind Ss of time management throughout the project. ? Encourage flexible presentation forms.

Warm up questions

? How do you like the food you eat every day? ? Do you have any favorite food? If yes, what is it?

? Is there any food you don’t like? If yes, what is it and why don’t you like it?

Ss work in pairs. Take turns asking their partners these questions and make notes. Organize your notes and report to the class. Model for reporting Tony is usually not very particular about food. He seems to be able to enjoy anything served to him. Last week, however, Tony had a taste of something that reminded him of the smell of a worm he used to play with as a kid. Though everyone else thought it was a delicious dish, for him, it was the worst food he ever had.
