Step1 Lead-in
T shows some photos of the “Mei Lanfang”, and asks Ss if they know something about Mei Lanfang and Beijing Opera.
使用图片导入激发学生的学习兴趣,同时引导学生对教学内容的关注。 Step2 Vocabulary
1. Ask some of the Ss or play a video for them to say or know more about Beijing Opera. 通过个别学生或著名歌星王力宏对京剧的介绍,使所有学生初步了解京剧。进而引发他们对京剧的神秘感和兴趣。
2. T shows some pictures to Ss, then uses pictures, examples to ask Ss to guess the meaning of the new words (mask, costume, combine, treasure, acrobatics).Use the simple English to explain them.

下面的文字阅读和下一课时的听力训练做准备。 Step 3 Introduction 1. History
Introduce the history of Beijing Opera to the students. Then ask them to answer the questions: When is Beijing Opera formed? How did it formed?
Check the answers with the Ss.
通过文字展示,使学生在阅读的基础上了解京剧形成的历史。并在语境中学习和应用新词汇:treasure, combine…with… 2. Main roles A) Roles
Introduce the 4 kinds of important roles in Beijing Opera to the Ss with some pictures and make them to know more about these roles:
The Sheng is the main male role who portray scholars, officials etc. It can divide into three types. Laosheng, Xiaosheng, Wusheng.
The Dan refers to any female role in Beijing opera. Dan roles were divided into five types: Laodan, Wudan (Daomadan), Qingyi, Huadan.
The Chou is a male clown role. It doesn’t means “ugliness” all the time; it can bring laughter to the audience and drive away evil spirits. Wenchou, Wuchou.
Jing plays secondary male roles. This type of role will need a forceful character. Zhengjing, Fujing, Wujing.
Learn and use the 3 new words (male, female, clown ) in the real situations.

Play a song《说唱脸谱》。Let the Ss think: Why the people in the song have different painted faces? What characters do they refer to?
Show the meanings of the different painted faces to the Ss.

Each role has its own singing and acting styles. Say: Suppose you’re a Beijing Opera actor/actress, what skills do you need to have? Check the answers, and then present:
Beijing Opera actors need to have4 kinds of skills. ( Chang: singing; Nian: talking; Zuo: acting, music dancing; Da: acrobatics.)

Show the picture of the music instrument played in Beijing Opera. Ask: What are the main instruments played in Beijing Opera. 了解京剧的伴奏乐器。学习新词 instrument. 5. Singing style
Show the passage to the Ss. Ask them to read it carefully and answer: Where was Beijing Opera performed at the beginning? Places ____ ,_____,________...
Why does it have very loud music and a sharp singing style? Because ___,____...

Ask the Ss to look at the passage and think: Why do performers wear brightly colored costumes? Because ________________...
了解戏服色彩艳丽的原因,并复习掌握costume一词。 7. Symbolism
Symbolism plays a very important role in Beijing Opera.
Ask the Ss to watch and imitate the actions played in the video. Then tell them that various body movements can represent different actions.
Ask the Ss to think: How to present the following actions: riding a horse, riding in a carriage and an army of thousands.
通过观看、模仿视频中京剧动作,体会象征手法的运用,提高学生的京剧欣赏能力,同时激发学生的好奇心和兴趣。并学习掌握新词represent。 8. Artists

Step 5 Enjoying
Ask the Ss to watch a piece of Beijing Opera “Mu Guiying Takes Command” 《穆桂英挂帅》with
the knowledge learnt in this class. Pay attention to the music, the voice of sing, the costumes, the skills of the performances etc.
师生共同欣赏京剧《穆桂英挂帅》片段,体会京剧特点,感受国粹魅力,促进师生情感交流。提高学生的学习兴趣。 Step 6 Summary and homework
In this class, we’ve talk about Beijing Opera from the following 8aspects: history,main roles, main instruments, symbols, skills, singing styles, costumes and artists including some of their works. We’ve also learnt some new words and useful phrases. After class, we should: 1.Rememorize the new vocabularies by heart for further study. 2. Some of us should write a passage to introduce Beijing Opera. (Choice)
