Here is a story: A man sees a butterfly(蝴蝶). The butterfly tries to get out of its chrysalis(蛹). Feeling sorry for it, the man decides to help. He cuts the chrysalis and the butterfly comes out easily. Surprisingly enough, the butterfly is unable to fly. If the butterfly doesn’t struggle(挣扎;奋斗) to leave the chrysalis, it can’t fly! The struggle develops the energy in the butterfly which makes it fly. Similarly, the challenges of life bring out the best in young people and make the fly.
When people are young, meeting and overcoming challenges will make them strong and ready to face life. When we look at successful people, we see that the most successful of them are people who have had to struggle. One famous businessman, who now owns many big supermarkets, used to carry clothes on his back and sell them from door to door when he was young. Another successful man is Dennis. His father died when he was only twenty. His father’s death forced him to mature fast. He had to bring up a family of nine people. He took up the challenges and overcame them. Today his brothers and sisters are leading successful lives.
Sometimes challenges do not appear to us because we keep away from them. So some parents and teachers actively encourage young people to face challenges. They might organize some activities for young people which provide them with challenges, like rock-climbing, camping, volunteer work and so on. However, just passing exams will not prepare a person for life. We must meet and overcome challenges. The young people of today will become the leaders of tomorrow. For countries to continue to become successful, it is important that the young people learn to meet challenges and overcome them. 1. From the story we know that the butterfly can’t fly because ________. A. it gets out by
itself B. the man feels sorry for it
C. it tries to challenge itself D. the man helps it come out
2. Dennis’s example shows that successful people should ________.

The boat started off. The passengers began to open their gifts. Tom and his cousin did the same. They found that one of the two gifts was a small bottle of drinking water, the other was a seasick tablet(晕船药). Tom had a look at a “yes”-passenger’s gift. His was a nice chocolate.
I worked for a short time as a cashier(出纳员) at a restaurant a few months ago. I also helped to clean up the tables when it was very busy. One night, just before Christmas, I found a large black wallet on the floor near one of the tables. I guessed I should check it to find out who was the owner, but I was very busy at the time. And I imagined that if there was something valuable(有价值的) in the wallet, the owner would be back. Sure enough, an hour later a man came up to the counter and asked if anyone had found a wallet. I asked him to describe the lost wallet, and after he described it exactly, I gave him the wallet. He expressed his thanks when I handed it to him. He asked me if I had opened it, and when I told him “no”. At once he opened it and showed that it had nearly $ 800 in cash(现金). He took out a twenty-dollar bill and handed it to me and I was amazed at this. “A reward(酬劳) for your honesty,” he said and then turned and walked away.
Thinking about it later, I began wondering whether I would have been honest if I had known what was in the wallet! I thought that if I had no way to find the owner and no one returned to get it, I might keep it. But it also came into my mind that I actually saved
someone’s Christmas plans by finding and returning the wallet. The good feeling it gave me was worth more than anything could buy.
1. Which of the following is true?
A. The owner of the wallet found a twenty-dollar bill gone. B. The writer wasn’t surprised when the man gave her a reward. C. Nothing in the wallet was missing.
D. The man was very, very excited when he got his wallet back. 2. The writer returned the wallet to the owner because _______. A. she thought Christmas was coming B. the owner came back too soon
C. she didn’t know there was so much money in it D. as an honest person, she didn’t care much about money 3. Which of the following is NOT true? A. The writer accepted a reward of $ 20.
B. The writer regretted(后悔) that she had returned the wallet. C. The writer didn’t return the wallet until the owner came back. D. The writer fell very happy after she returned the wallet.
Nothing in the wallet was missing。
Thinking about it later, I began wondering whether I would have been honest if I had known what was in the wallet! I thought that if I had no way to find the owner and no one returned to get it, I might keep it可排除选项C和D。
He took out a twenty-dollar bill and handed it to me and I was amazed at this. “A reward for your honesty,” he said and then turned and walked away可知选项A与文章内容相符;选项B的意思是“作者直到失主返回来才将钱包还给他”,这显然与文章内容相符;根据第2段最后一句话The good feeling it gave me was worth more than anything could buy可知,选项D也与文章内容相符。
