Teaching Plan for U8

Teaching aims:. Ask for and give directions on the street. Grammar: 1. there be sentence pattern 2. use the prepositions of place to describe the locations *Structure:

1. Is there a bank near here? Yes, there is. It’s on Center Street.

2. Are there any restaurants near here? Yes, there’s one in front of the post office. 3. Where is the….? It’s ….

4. Go along New Street. Turn right at the first crossing and the restaurant is on your left, across from the pay phone.

*Vocabulary: refer to the wordlist on P125-P126

Phrases: post office, police station, pay phone, across from, in front of, go along, turn right, turn left, spend time, enjoy reading, between…and…, next to, in the neighborhood *Writing: to write about your neighborhood *Sentences for writing: 1) I live in a …neighborhood. 2) There is a….between…and…. 3) I enjoy doing…..there.

4) When I….., time goes quickly!

5) You can get to….easily. Go along the …Street and turn…., it’s across from…., Use the following words to write a paragraph (at least 80 words): neighborhood, enjoy, between, along, get *Passage to recite: P46 1c

Period One: Places and Positions Teaching material: section A 1. Lead in : picture 1a Topic : places

A: Is there a hospital near here?

B: Yes, there is. It’s on Bridge Street. (review there be 句型,详见note 2) 4. Is there a pay phone near here? Yes, there is. It’s …..

We can use many different preps to describe the position of the pay phone.

Try to use these prepositons: next to, across from, between, on , in front of, behind 2a Match the sentences with the pictures. 2b Listen and fill in the blanks.

5. Pair work: Ask and answer questions about the places in 1a on page 43 A: Where is the hospital?

B: It’s next to the police station. Notes: 1. compare in front of and in the front of Eg: He is standing in front of the car. It’s very dangerous!

The driver is sitting in the front of the car. He is driving the car now.

Notes: 2. there be 句型 there be 句型表示“某地有某物”, 其结构为:“There be + 某物/ 人 + 某地、某时”, 否定句是在be 之后加not, 疑问句是把be提到句首。其中be动词的单复数形式与最靠近的主语在数上保持一致。即就近原则。其回答为:

Yes, there is/are. 或No, there isn’t/aren’t. There are two pears on the table. There aren’t two pears on the table. Are there two pears on the table? Yes, there are. No, there aren’t.

Q: How many pears are there on the table? Notes: 3. between vs among between 介词, 表示“在……中间”, 常与and 连接, 构成短语。例如: I sit between Lucy and Lily.

between 是指在两者之间,或多者之中两两之间。 而 among 是指在三者或三者以上的中间。例如: There is a break between two classes. My brother is among those boys. Notes: 4. next to vs near next to与near的区别 从空间讲near 只表示“在……附近”;而next to有“紧挨着”之意;next to比near靠的更近。 Eg: Peter sits next to Mike. 彼特紧挨着迈克坐。 Peter sits near Tom. 彼特坐在汤姆附近。 6. practice p45

Read the sentences in Grammar Focus, and finish 3a and 3b. Check the answers.

1. Lead in: Suppose I am new here in Xiamen. I want to go to a bank. I ask: Is there a bank around here? Who can show me the way? 2. p44 2d Notes:

How can I help you? I am new in town. I can walk with you. No problem

3. If you can’t walk with me , how can you show the way? P46 1a Match the words in the box with the signs.

4. 1b and 1c

5. Practice Show the students some maps and ask them to do the pair work.

2b read the passages. Match each passage with a map. 2c read the passages again and answer the questions. Notes:

1) I like to spend time there on weekends. like to do /like doing喜欢做某事 spend 花费

spend (money/time) on sth

我花了400元买这辆自行车。 I spend 400yuan on the bike. 我每天花2个小时写作业。

I spend two hours on my homework every day. spend (time) (in) doing sth

I spend two hours (in) doing my homework every day. 2) To get to the park, you just have to cross Center Street. to get to the park 是目的状语前置,此句子中的just起增强语气的作用,和此处的have to表示“只要,仅需”。

3) It is very quiet and I enjoy reading there.

enjoy 表示“从中得到乐趣;欣赏;喜欢”,后接动词时候,动词用-ing形式,即enjoy doing …,表示喜欢做某事,享受做某事带来的乐趣。 e.g. I enjoying listening to soft music. 我喜欢听轻柔的音乐。 拓展:

enjoy oneself 表示 “玩的高兴,愉快” e.g.: Our classmates enjoy ourselves. 4) look like 看起来像。。。

3. How to write about your neighborhood. Look at 3a and fill in the blanks 4. Now you try: 3b

1. Where do you live?

2. What is your favorite place in your neighborhood? Why? 3. How do you get there from your home?
