Some people think getting old is bad for them in the modern world, while others think older people today live better lives than in the past. Discuss both views and give your own opinion
MODEL:
The aging population nowadays is taking an increasingly large proportion in our society. Some people claim that it is tough for the elderly people to live a decent life in the modern society. Personally, I tend to have a different opinion.
It is true that the senior citizens may face some difficulties in their lives. Firstly, people’s physical condition deteriorate inevitably as time passes by. Hence, they may suffer from various diseases and may lose the ability to support themselves financially and physically. Besides, the advancing technology may cause some difficulties for them since it is hard for them to acquaint themselves with the latest technology. For example, the online payment is pervasive nowadays in our country, but a majority of elderly still use the cash because they are not able to use them very well, which brings troubles in their daily lives.
However, we may also notice that the aging population may also enjoy better living condition than their counterparts in the past. To begin with, the medical advances greatly prolong people’s life span. Some common diseases like diabetes and hypertension now are no longer serious problems since their symptoms are sharply alleviated by intaking latest medicines. Apart from this, if the elderly are not willing to live together with their offspring, nursing homes today also provide much more well-rounded care systems with qualified medical personnel, which brings massive conveniences to their later lives.
As far as I am concerned, the senior citizens today are living a far more comfortable life than few decades ago. And I believe they should hold a positive attitude towards their lives and embrace the changes in this modern world.

As population and income growth lead to increasing demands for freshwater and freshwater scarcity, changes in water governance and policy are advocated to tighten the control over fresh water use. Although I will not argue that people are entitled to use water recklessly, it is also thoughtless to simply set strict restriction on water use from the authoritative side.
Water is necessary for the sustenance of all living creatures. It is the world’s most precious resource, fueling everything from the food we eat, to the cotton we wear, to the energy we depend upon every day. And freshwater habitats—such as lakes, rivers, streams, wetlands and aquifers—house an incredible proportion of the world’s biodiversity. Yet despite the massive role water plays for people and nature, water is not a limitless resource, particularly the fresh potable water. Less than 1% of the world's water is fresh and accessible. Therefore, the notion that people are free to use water lavishly is both selfish and improvident. Without conservation efforts, this vital supply may be exhausted.
For another, focusing on strict water governance is too narrow an approach and would not have the desired result as domestic water use only contributes partially to the issue of water scarcity. In fact, fresh water resources show a qualitative and quantitative deterioration through time resulting from overexploitation in agricultural and industrial purposes, climatic constraints and multiplication of the diffuse sources of pollution, which are obviously beyond the realm of the approach of tightening control over water.
In conclusion, in order to ensure sustainable utilization of water, a very rigorous process of evaluation is called for, so that we can make informed decisions. It may require collaborative
