Unit 1 Cultural Relics
高一必修二
(Period 2: Reading part—In search of the Amber Room)
I. Teaching Material Analysis
From this text, students will learn what cultural relics are and have the awareness to protect them. In the reading part “In Search of the Amber Room”, students can learn the story of the amber room, which includes the building, missing and rebuilding of the amber room. They will find that the amber room had been stolen during WWII, so they can learn the importance of protecting the cultural relics. The structure of the text is obvious, so students can analyze the text and find the key word of each paragraph easily. There are some new words in the text as well as non-attributive clauses. Since this unit is the first unit of this term, we can find that the textbook tries to pay more attention to the cultural information and humanistic care. II. Learning Situation Analysis
After the first period of this unit, the Ss have known some international cultural relics and leaned the general idea of cultural relics and the new words which will appear in the reading text. This class tells the story of the Amber Room, which is more interesting. But considering that this is the firs unit of the term, I took a slower step to have the lesson.

III. Teaching Objective 1. Language Objective
In reading process, I helped Ss consolidate the new words which have been learned in the first period and the attributive clauses. Since they are helpful for students to enlarge the vocabulary and understand the text more easily. I let students to retell the story of the amber room in order to let students to use English to express. 2. Ability Objective
I encouraged students analysis and summarize information and promoted students to further improve their English comprehensive ability.
3. Moral Objectives
As we know, this unit mainly talks about the cultural relics. There are a lot of cultural relics in the world; however, many of them are endangered. So I cultivate the students to have the awareness of protecting cultural relics. And strengthened the friendship and cultivated team spirit of students through group works. IV. Important Points
I think the important points are to train the students’ reading ability, analyze the text and grasp some new words of the text. So students can understand the text clearly by doing that. V. Difficult Point
4
How to retell the story of Amber Room is a difficult point for students. So I led them to use the attributive clause and important words and phrases such as build, rebuild, missing, in return, remove, etc to express themselves. VI. Teaching Method
1. Task-based language teaching is adopted in this lesson. The task was to get the structure of the text and I asked students to divide the whole text into four parts and tried to get the main idea of each part. By means of TBLT, students were involved and engaged in the task and classroom activities, and therefore they could learn more about the text.
2. 2.Group works: there were 2 group works in the lesson. One was to tell what happened to amber room in the four years(1716; 1770; 1941; 2003). To answer this question, Ss need the ability of collecting, summarizing and retelling of information, I thought it is a little difficult for them, so I suggested to work it by groups of three. Another was to do the discussion by groups of four.(Is it worth rebuilding lost cultural relics such as Yuan Ming Yuan or Amber Room? Give your reasons.)
3. Teaching Aids: a tape recorder; a blackboard, chalks, a projector and a computer. VII. Teaching Procedures
