Through nature hikes, horseback riding, swimming, challenge courses and evening cabin chat times, it’s a place where character is built and longlasting friendships are formed. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS What will my child eat? Three hot, wholesome meals are served daily in our dining halls. In addition to the primary, hot meal, a morning breakfast bar includes porridge, melon slices, yogurt and milk. Further, besides primary hot meals at lunch and dinner, a sandwich bar is available and includes soy nut butter and jelly. A build-your-own salad bar, including cucumbers, tomatoes and a host of other vegetables, is also available during both lunch and dinner. Fresh fruit is available for snacking all day long. Where will my child sleep? Campers live in cozy cabins with similar-aged peers, under the close supervision of counselors and program directors. Typically 1-2 staff are present in the cabin with the campers. We honor one mutual roommate request per camper. How does camp handle homesickness? Homesickness is not uncommon at camp. Our staff is trained to make the change from home to camp as easy as possible. Our check-in day programming is designed to get campers engaged with their roommates quickly so relationships can form, and campers can begin to feel comfortable. Engaged campers tend to not get homesick! What if my child gets sick? We have a licensed nurse on site 24 hours a day, throughout the entire session. Each camp has a fully stocked, climate-controlled room to store medication, and address all campers’ medical needs. In addition, all staff are trained on handling accidents. Questions? Back in March, when the COVID-19 virus had just started its deadly influence across the country and people were panicked about shortages of just about every staple (必需品) of daily life, Jonny Blue focused on one particularly urgent need. Blue, a 33-year-old physical healer saw reports of people buying and storing toilet paper. He came up with a simple yet brilliant solution.
One Saturday morning, Blue took a piece of cardboard, wrote “Share Your Toilet Paper” on it in huge letters, and camped out on the corner of El Camino Real and Encinitas Boulevard. “It just inspired me to remind people, listen, if you have a lot of something, that probably means there are people who don’t have very much of it because you took it all,” Blue said. “So sharing it is probably a good thing to keep in mind.”
The response was immediate and positive, with motorists honking horns(鸣笛)in support. Drivers stopped to drop off spare rolls, and, just as quickly, Blue handed them off.
“This guy said he just ran out and was going to a bunch of stores and couldn’t find any,” Blue said as cars went by. “Somebody had given me some, so I gave it to him. He was inspired. He was like, ‘Do you want me to pay you?’ I said, ‘No, man. Take it.’”
A moment later, a driver in a white pickup truck slowed down just enough to take out a roll to add to Blue’s collections.
“People are loving it,” Blue said. “They’re honking, smiling, laughing. It’s kind of a rough time right now. People want a sense of community.”
24. Why were people panicked at the beginning of the COVID-19 virus? A. The virus is deadly dangerous. B. People bought out daily staples. C. People took all toilet paper away. D. There were too many motorists.
