INTERVIEWER: ... and today in our consumers affairs slot we have Joyce Morgan to tell us some interesting

news about prices.

JOYCE:

If you think you'd like a holiday in New York but can't afford it, we've found the answer: go shopping! This may seem strange, but this week we've done some research on prices in Europe compared with those in New York. We looked at three popular consumer items: a pair of Levi 501s, an Apple iMac computer and a pair of men's Timberland boots. If you bought all three items in New York, you'd save an astonishing £314.25 over prices in London -■一 that's more than enough to cover a return flight and a hotel in New York!

INTERVIEWER: Thafs incredible! Tell us more. JOYCE:

Well, let's start with the boots. We found that in Berlin they cost £108, in New York

£90.06, but in London a staggering £145! So in London the same pair of boots costs nearly

£55 more than in New York. It was exactly the same for the Levi 501s. in New York they cost £24.85, in Berlin £57.80 and in London £59.95, well more than double the price!

INTERVIEWER: What about the iMac computer? JOYCE:

Again, the European prices were pretty close, while the price in New York was

substantially lower. In Berlin the iMac cost £1,009, in London it was 999.99, while in New York it was only £775.78.

INTERVIEWER: Well, thank you, Joyce. I'm sure 1 know where I'll be doing my shopping in future! JOYCE:

Yes, but don't forget, it's a long way home from the shops!
