A. Let’s read Unit 3 PEP Book7

I. Analyzing the teaching materials

The main target in primary English is to cultivate students’ capability of using English to do things. If students obtain certain reading techniques and strategies, they can undoubtedly get more information from the outside world. Actually, students are learning by reading. The lesson that I’ll demonstrate today is from PEP Book 7;A. Let’s read in Unit 3. It’s a reading lesson. The unit is talking about future tense. Students have learnt some vocabulary and sentence structures e.g. “What are you going to do this morning? I’m going to…” in the previous lessons. The part of “Let’s read” is a passage that will train the students’ ability of reading and reinforce the target language they’ve learnt before.

( According to the teaching materials, I draw out some teaching aims.) II. Teaching aims

1. Knowledge aims

a. To enable the students to read and understand the passage. b. To help students finish the weekend plan.

c. To help students retell the story by the third person. 2. Skill aims

a. To develop students’ abilities of listening, speaking, reading

and writing, especially the reading capability.

b. To train the students’ ability of retelling someone’s plans. c. To train the students’ ability of working and communicating in groups. 3. Strategy aims

a. To cultivate students’ reading strategies.

b. To develop students’ multi-intelligence including linguistic, bodily-kinesthetic, musical, interpersonal and intra-personal intelligence. 4. Attitude aims

a. To cultivate students’ abilities to arrange their own life and study properly.

b. To inspire the students’ interest of learning English and help them build up self-confidence.

III. Teaching important and difficult points

1. To help students obtain reading strategies to comprehend the passage and develop their interest in English.

2. To guide students learn how to retell a passage by the third person. ( In order to achieve the teaching aims and strengthen the points. I adopt some teaching approaches. ) IV. Teaching approaches

Task-based teaching approach and activity-based teaching approach.

I’ll arrange five kinds of task-style activities including a guessing game, rearranging the pictures, singing, finishing a plan and having a competition. All of these can make the dull reading procedure become more enjoyable. V. Teaching aids

Tape-recorder, picture-cards, word-cards and work sheets. VI. Teaching assessment

The assessment, an integral part in the education process plays an important role in promoting children’s learning. In this lesson, I adopt the formative assessment. It focuses on the process of learning, that is, on assessing how well children perform tasks and make progress during the process of learning.

VII. Teaching procedures Steps Pre-reading Teacher’s Activities 1. Sing the song “What are you going to do?” 2. T: Let’s play a guessing game. (Do actions and says, “I’m going to…”) 1. T: Liu Yun is going to have a busy weekend. ( Blackboard writing: A busy weekend ) Please read in silence and then finish your worksheet in 3 minutes. Students’ Activities 1. Sing together. 2. Guess, do actions and say, “You’re going to… Purpose Arouse the Ss’ interest and motivation of reading by singing and doing some TPR and guessing games. Then lead in the topic. Task-based teaching helps Ss obtain certain reading strategies which is how to grasp the main idea of the passage and catch some details in a specific time. While- 1. Read in silence and finish the worksheet in 3 minutes.
