When you watch TV programs about wild animals, it is surprising to see how an antelope (羚羊)can run away from a strong lion. In the wilderness, everyone has his own way to protect himself. Even plants have their own ways to fight off enemies.
Over millions of years, plants have developed a unique defense system. Chemicals are fantastically used by plants to survive. By making their leaves, flowers, roots and fruits poisonous(有毒的)to enemies, plants can fight back.
One such plant is the Golden Wattle tree. The British scientist David Cameron has found when an animal eats the tree’s leaves, the amount of poison increases in the other leaves. “It’s like the injured leaves telephoning the others to fight together against the enemy,” he said.
The tree also sends defense messages to neighboring plants by giving out a special smell. Golden Wattle trees in the nearby 45 meters will get the message and produce more poison within 10 minutes. Now, if an enemy eats too many of the tree’s leaves, he
will die.
Every kind of plant or tree is good at producing a special set of chemicals. Herbivores(食草动物), like rabbits, can safely eat the leaves of one tree but they may be poisoned by its neighbor. In this way, plants have not only developed their own defense system, but also shared it with others. This makes it impossible for a single animal to destroy even a small area of forest.
41. It is normal to see an antelope run away from a strong lion.
42. Plants can fight back enemies by making their leaves, flowers, roots and fruits poisonous.

I used to see a man on the train to work every morning. He always sat alone, never spoke to anyone and never listened to music.
About eight days ago, I noticed he was making a video call with a friend and using sign language. After he ended the call, he looked so sad. I thought I should say something to cheer him up or just ask if he was okay, but we wouldn’t be able to understand each other. The only thing I could do was to put my hand on his shoulder and smile. I thought that how lonely he must feel.
From then on, I started staying up a few hours every night after work, learning American Sign Language from the videos I found online.

Have you ever heard the phrase “save the bees”? On Tuesday, engineers at University of Washington said that they have designed wireless platforms(无线平台)to be worn by bees, in order to solve the problem of poor battery life on small drones(无人机). The bees may be saving the small drones. Although drones have become a symbol of future technology, the short battery life on small drones has been a problem. The bumblebee( a large bee) can stay in the air a lot longer.
The researcher call their invention a flying wireless platform with sensors(传感器)and trackers(追踪器)that rides live insects. The sensor package is a small battery that lasts up to seven hours of flight and is light on the bee. It weighs only 102mg.
A lot of tests have been done by the researchers. They track the bees through antennas(天线)and radio waves. And it does help that bees are always close to where the bees live. The bee collects data(数据)throughout its daily flight. When it returns,
