A student is learning to speak British English. He wonders: Can I communicate with Americans? Can they understand me? Learners of English often ask: What are the differences between British and American English? How important are these differences?

Certainly, there are some differences between British and American English. There are a few differences in grammar. For example, speakers of British English say “in hospital” and \”, Americans say “in the hospital” and ‘Do you have a pen?’.Pronunciation is sometimes different. Americans usually sound the “r” in the words like “bird” and “hurt”. Speakers of British English do not sound the “r” in these words. Smart phone, poor sight

Look around and you’ll see people busy on their smart phones. Smart phones do make our lives easier. But have you ever thought about what they mean to your eyes?

According to a study, half of British people own smart phones and they spend an average of two hours a day using them. There has been a 35% increase in the number of people in the UK who suffer from short-sightedness(近视) since smart phones were introduced there in 1997.

Once upon a time, there was a beautiful bird, which was very curious about Hell. When she was little, her mother always told her that if she didn’t master the flying skills, she would go to Hell.
