They’ve influenced us more or less. Today we’re going to write about the person who has influenced us most. And Mr. Wu is asking each of the Class 1, Grade 9 students to write about a person who has influenced him or her most. He shows an article to them as a model. Now let’s listen to the article and repeat after the tape. Step Two Part A on P60 1. Help the Ss understand the article better by asking the following questions: (1)Who has influenced the author most? (2)How old is her father? (3)What is her father like? (4) What has her father done since 1990? (5)What surprised the author? (6)What does the author realize now? 2. Let the Ss read the article in Part A and ask and answer in pairs, encourage them to ask more questions. Step Three Part B on P 61 1. Ask the Ss to read the article again and finish Part B. 2. Analyze the whole article and let the Ss summarize the main idea of each paragraph, help Ss learn to gather such kind of information. Step Four Writing 1. Jim Carrey was born in a working class family, and life was poor for young Jim. While in his teens, he had to take a job as a doorkeeper when his father lost his job, and finally he dropped out of school. At that time, he developed his sense of humour to help him deal with anger at the world. He was often alone. He said he didn’t have any friends because he didn’t want any. At 15 he started performing at a comedy club. Later he moved to Los Angeles and there he got the attention from a famous comedian, Rodney Dangerfield, and his life started to change. Jim Carrey got his big break in 1990, when he played a role on the new comedy show, In Living Color. He broke into films in 1994. It was the year of Funny Face. First there was Pet Detective, a success that showed Carrey’s comic style.
