Stephen Hawking is one of the most famous scientists in the world partly because of his scientific discoveries and partly because of his physical disability. He was born in 1942 in Oxford and graduated from Oxford University. In the 1960s he was diagnosed with motor neurone disease.
Victims of motor neurone disease cannot move and cannot speak but their brains may work perfectly. In Stephen Hawking’s case it was discovered that he was a brilliant scientists. Moving in a wheelchair and speaking through a special computer, he has become the voice of science.
Stephen Hawking has spent his career at Cambridge University, where he become Professor of Physics in 1977. His work was in the area of cosmology and he wrote about black holes in space. His book A Brief History of Time was published in 1988 and is still a best-seller.

传记(biography)是记载人物生平事迹的一种文体，传记的种类分为传(小传)、自传等。传或小传是记叙他人生平的文章。自传是自述生平的文章，作者把自己一生中经历的事件，系统而又重点地介绍出来。
人物传记也是记叙文体的一种，但人物传记主要写名人或伟人的生平、事迹，所以，写人物传记时要抓住其出生年月，主要事迹以及人们的评论等。
此类文章以人物为中心组织材料，围绕这个人物写一件或几件事，一般按时间顺序来写。 文章一般分为三部分。
第一部分：描写的人物是谁，对这个人物实行总体介绍。
第二部分：以时间顺序介绍这个人物的生平经历、思想见解和贡献等。 第三部分：写人们对他或她的评价以及对后人的影响等。
因描写的事情都是过去发生的事，所以通常用过去时。介绍他人的经历和事迹应用第三人称。
