Part I Listening Comprehension (15 points, 15 minutes)

Directions: This part is to test your listening ability. It consists of 3 sections. Section A (5 points)

Directions: In this section you will hear 5 short dialogues. At the end of each

dialogue, a question will be asked about what was said. Both the

dialogues and questions will be spoken only once. After each question there will be a pause. During the pause, you must read the 4 choices

marked A., B., C. and D., and decide which is the best answer. Then mark the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet with a single line through the center.

Directions: In this section you will hear a recorded short passage. The passage is

numbered blanks according to what you hear. The third reading is for you to check your writing. Now the passage will begin.

(71) Experts have long thought that depression could be bad for your heart. A new research demonstrates just how dangerous it can be. Brenda Penninx, a gerontologist (老年病学家) in Forest University, North Carolina and her colleagues followed 2, 847 people over the age of 55 both with and without heart disease — for four years in order to trace the effects of depression.
