Listed here are four of the thousands of impressive museums around the world.
The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao in Bilbao, Spain
Built in 1997, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao is one of the newest in the world. It has transformed the industrial city of Bilbao into a travelers' desired destination. The beautiful architecture of the museum has provided a dramatic background for movies and commercials.
The Louvre in Paris, France
Probably the most famous Louvre also holds the most famous painting in the world, the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci. Crowds can be found any day surrounding the small, but mysterious painting of the smiling woman. But, the Louvre is much more than a home to the Mona Lisa. The Louvre is visited by more people each year than any other museum in the world.
The Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia, America
Just opened in its new downtown location in 2012, the Barnes Foundation is unique in that it is a completely reproduced display from one man's private collection. Dr. Albert C. Barnes started collecting art in the early 20th century and collected, among others, the largest number of original Renoir paintings in the world.
The Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy
Walking on the marbled floors feels like stepping back in time. The building itself is a beautiful palace-like structure with frescoes (湿壁画) decorating the ceilings and walls. Viewers are bowled over (印象深刻) by the works by Botticelli, such as
The Birth of Venus. Classic artworks from nearly 1,000 years ago describe religious
events of the time.
21. Which of the following is the most popular? A. The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao. C. The Barnes Foundation. A. Its collection.

After 21 years of marriage, my wife wanted me to take another woman out to dinner and a movie. The other woman was my mother, who has been a widow (寡妇) for 19 years. However, the demands of my work and my three children had made it possible to visit her only occasionally.
That Friday after work, when I arrived at her house, my mother was waiting in the door with her coat on. She had curled (使卷曲) her hair and was wearing the dress that she had worn to celebrate her last wedding anniversary.
We went to a restaurant that, although not elegant, was very nice and cozy. My mother took my arm as if she were the First Lady. During the dinner, we had an agreeable conversation about nothing extraordinary(非凡的) but just caught up on recent events.
D. The Uffizi Gallery.
B. Its structure. D. Its history.
B. An exhibition announcement.
22. What makes the Barnes Foundation particular? C. Its location. A. An activity poster. C. An art show review.
23. What type of writing is this text?
D. A travel guide.
We talked so much that we missed the movie.
As we arrived at her house later, she said: “I’ll go out with you again, but only if you let me invite you.” I agreed. A few days later, my mother died of a massive (严重的) heart attack. It happened so suddenly that I didn’t have a chance to do anything for her.
Sometime later, I received an envelope with a copy of a restaurant receipt (收据) from the same place mother and I had dined. An attached note said: “I paid this bill in advance. I wasn’t sure whether I could be there; still, I paid for two plates – one for you and the other for your wife. You will never know what that night meant for me. I love you, Son.”
At that moment, I understood the importance of saying: “I love you” and of giving our loved ones the time they deserve. Nothing in life is more important than family. Give family members the attention they deserve, because these things cannot be put off till some “other” time.
24. The author describes in detail how his mother looked in order to ______. A. show readers his mother’s character
B. stress how important the dinner was to his mother C. create an atmosphere of happiness D. show the importance of table manners 25. The author should be thankful to ______.
A. his wife, who pushed him to have dinner with his mom B. his mom, who paid in advance for the next dinner C. God, who gave him the chance to have dinner with his mom D. his children, who were very understanding and helpful 26. We can infer from the story that ______. A. the author doesn’t like his work and children
B. the author and his mother talked about big events during their dinner C. the author and his mother saw a movie together after their dinner D. the author’s mother felt satisfied to have a dinner with her son
C
Imagine going camping for over a week with several of your close friends. You would make sure you have plenty of food and things to cook and eat with. The food would have to be stored properly to prevent spoilage (变质). After finishing your meal, or at the end of your camping trip, you would then put away all the things and throw away the trash properly.
Astronauts basically do the same thing when they go into space. The
preparation of food is different, depending on the food type. Some food can be eaten in its natural form, such as fruit. Other food needs water to be added to it, such as spaghetti. Of course, an oven (烤箱) is provided in the spaceship and the space station to heat food to the proper temperature. There are no refrigerators in space, so space food must be stored and prepared properly to prevent spoilage.
There is salt and pepper in the spaceship but only in liquid (液体的) form. This is because astronauts can’t put salt or pepper on their food in the normal way in space. The salt and pepper would simply float away. There is a danger that they could get into the equipment or get stuck in an astronaut’s eyes, mouth or nose. Astronauts eat three meals a day —breakfast, lunch and dinner. When astronauts finish eating, they must throw the packaging (包装袋) away in a special trash container inside the spaceship. Some packaging actually prevents food from flying away. The food packaging is designed to be flexible (灵活的) and easy to use, as well as to save space for other activities.
28. We can learn from the passage that the food preparation for a camping trip ______. A. is very troublesome B. needs many people to do
C. is much easier than that for a space trip D. has some similarities to that for a space trip
29. Which of the following CAN’T be seen in a spaceship? A. A refrigerator. Spaghetti.
30. Normal salt and pepper can’t be used in a spaceship because they ______.
A. don’t have any flavour(味道) B. take up too much space C. don’t stick to the food D. make the equipment dirty 31. What can we learn from the passage?
A. Astronauts eat more than three meals a day.
B. Food in a spaceship is prepared according to its type. C. The food packages in a spaceship should be big. D. Most food in a spaceship needs water to be added to it.
D
Not all think laughter is the best medicine, but it seems to help. So scientists carried on a new study of diabetes (糖尿病) patients who were given a good dose of humor for a year to prove it.
Researchers divided 20 high-risk diabetic patients into two groups. Both groups were given standard diabetes medicine. Group L viewed 30 minutes of humor of their choice, while Group C, the control group, did not. This went on for a year of treatments.
By two months into the study, the patients in the laughter group had lower level of the hormones epinephrine (肾上腺素), considered to cause stress, which is known
