高三xx十月月考 英语试题

第一部分:阅读理解(共两节,满分40分) 第一节:(共15小题,每小题2分,满分30分)

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。 A

Around three forty-five on a rainy Saturday morning, I was woken up by the sound of my pager(呼机) beeping. As a volunteer firefighter and emergency medical technician, I can never count on a full night of sleep. I pulled myself out of bed and went toward the desk to grab my radio. Our crew was being sent to a nearby home where a man was in cardiac arrest (心脏骤停). We found the man lying on the kitchen floor with his wife beside him. We rushed the patient to the hospital, but despite our efforts, we were unable to save his life.

In my line of life, I rarely get any recognition from the patients we treat, or from their loved ones. But that night, a man’s wife approached us, and through her tears, whispered, “Thank you.” Then she hugged each of us. She knew we answered her late-night call for help, even though the ending was not positive.

There is something deeply rewarding about helping people in these circumstances. Sometimes, I’m able to make their worst day a bit better: like seeing the tears of an injured child turn into a smile when I gave him an interesting toy; or watching a terrified mother’s screams turn into tears of joy when she realized her baby was going to be fine.

Experiences like these allow me to see the impact my work has on others. At the same time, I also know the effect it has had on my own life. As a teenager, I felt awkward when my dad hugged me and said, “ I love you, my dear son.” I was equally unfortable and responded, “I love you.” But then I imagined him lying on the kitchen floor that rainy night and realized that my opportunity to say those three words could---at any moment---be taken away forever. Now, I extremely treasure the moment when my father says those three words to me. I’ve learned to appreciate every relationship I have, to tell people I care about them, and to never take anything in life for granted.

It had been snowing since two o’clock that afternoon. Time was slipping away, and as I watched the snowflakes fall onto my car, I really began to wonder if I was going to make it on time. Of course I must, as there was no option.

Several weeks ago, all the things that my daughter Alexandra had talked about were the Christmas concert to be held in her school and some rumors about it. “Mom, Rachel was supposed to sing alone, but guess what happened? She’s not! Linda will replace her to do it.” “Mom, I get to stand next to Tyler in the whole concert!” “Mom, you won’t believe it, but Lexie’s whole family is ing to the concert, even from another state!” Making a long way out of state to see third graders sing Christmas carols seemed to be a pretty big deal for her.

As I sat in traffic, I thought about all the school events I had attended alone. Alexandra never mentioned it, but I wondered how she felt about me being the only one whoever came to her events. My own family lived out of town, and her father and his family never quite managed to fit those things into their schedules. I wondered if it bothered her.

The concert was scheduled to begin at seven o’clock. With only a few minutes to spare, I found myself running: first, through the snow-drifted parking lot, then through the school passage. I entered the crowded hall and found a vacant seat near the front. From her place onstage, Alexandra saw me run for the chair, and she smiled. I was close enough to hear the loud conversation of the children onstage.

“Look, Alexandra, there is my aunt and my cousin. They came all the way from West Virginia. I can’t believe my whole family is here!” Alex smiled at Lexie and said, “My whole family is here, too! Look, there she is!” Alex gave me a big smile. I waved back at her, never once noticing the melting snow dripping off my head. It suddenly occurred to me that while we tried to teach our children all about life, they actually taught us what life was all about.

5. What was Alexandra’s attitude towards the Christmas concert?

A. defensive B. disappointed C. enthusiastic D. indifferent 6. According to Paragraph 3, the writer worried that ____________. A. She might miss the Christmas concert.

B. Her husband was too busy to attend the school events

C. Alexandra felt disappointed to see only her mom present D. Alexandra wouldn’t perform well in the Christmas concert

7. It could be inferred from the passage that the writer ________. A. attached importance to her daughter’s school events B. drove to attend the concert from another state

C. failed to understand her daughter’s words D. regretted not singing with her daughter 8. What might be the best title of the passage?

A. My whole family is here. B. Express your love in time.

C. Understanding makes miracles. D. A smile brings an end to a conflict.

2019-2020年高三上学期10月月考试题 英语 含答案

Well-written reviews of books, music, movies, and other products can arouse people’s interest. When writing a review, concentrate on exactly what you like or don’t like. Give examples of strengths and weaknesses, be descriptive and provide background information on an author, director, actor or musician, if possible. Find professional reviews in magazines or newspapers and see how reviewers deal with their topic, but be sure to express your own voice in your review.

Grammar Hint for Review: When describing a book, movie, album or anything else, use the present tense. Book Reviews

Discuss an author’s technique, strengths and weaknesses instead of focusing on the plot. Does the story flow? Is there a strong sense of character and place? Did you stay up until dawn to finish it? Is it good reading for teenagers? What influence did it have on you and why? If you’ve read other books by the same author, discuss how this book pares.

Movie Reviews

Think of the major Oscar categories and consider the performances, music, lighting and setting, etc. Do these work together? Did some hold up while others didn’t? If the movie is based on a book, discuss whether one is better than the other and why. If the movie is a remake, pare the film to its original.

Remember that a well-written movie review should discuss strengths and weaknesses. Some readers may not have seen a movie yet, so don’t give away an exciting scene or the ending! College Reviews

Begin by providing an overview of the college, including location, size and a description of the campus and\\or dorm life. Think about all aspects of your college visit. What academic, athletic and after-class programs are available? What are the students like? What makes the college different from others? Every school has strengths and weaknesses. Be objective. Consider what the school has to offer and who might enjoy or benefit the most from attending it.

9. When writing a review, you ____________.

A. cannot refer to any previous review B. must express your own views and opinions.

C. must provide some information about the author. D. needn’t give any examples to support your views.
