These ingredients consist of different kinds of elements including Kongfu in Chinese civilization and Einstein in western culture. What the picture is trying to convey is reflected in the caption: the cultural “hot pot” is both delicious and nutritious. In fact, the metaphorical picture intends to reveal that the cultural integration plays an increasingly essential role in modern society. Two fundamental factors are involved in understanding this phenomenon. To begin with, the reform and opening-up policy in China has led to rapid economic growth, which has given rise to a higher standard of living. As a result, a growing number of people tend to go abroad for travel and study in recent years, bringing Chinese culture to the other countries. Furthermore, invented some 70 years ago, computers have already transformed the way most of us live. For example, now many foreign friends can easily get to know Chinese culture through the Internet. To sum up, the cultural integration can exert a huge impact on our society. The time is right for us to take full advantage of ample existing opportunities. To begin with, in modern society where competition is intense, young people are under enormous strain from their work and family. Under such circumstances, numerous individuals are becoming self-centered and indifferent to the environment. Moreover, it is education that should be blamed. Schools nowadays tend to pay special attention to students’ academic scores rather than their morality. This will definitely give rise to the phenomenon depicted in the picture.
To sum up, environmental protection exerts a major impact on our society. The fundamental way in which the government addresses the problem is to raise the public awareness. The man on the left complains mournfully, “it is over”, with one hand covering his right eyes.
