draft – short version Use Case Name: – 2 – 1 Description of the Use Case Name of Use Case:

Forecast consumption/generation Name Author(s) or Committee: Peter Ferstl

Scope and Objectives of Function:

The Customer EMS (H/B/I automation system) gives a forecast to the DSO to enable to better manage capacity and provide higher quality of service.

Short description (max 3 sentences):

Customers who forecast power usage, hours, days, or perhaps months ahead, can better manage power costs and production schedules. Sharing this forecast information with power suppliers is a win-win and enables electric power providers to better plan and manage capacity and provide higher quality of service.

Complete description:

The Customer EMS (H/B/I automation system) cyclically estimates a rolling forecast of the consumption or the generation. This forecast is transmitted to the DSO. The forecast starts with the present power demand or generation and is continued in (fixed?) time slots (of 15 minutes?) in to the future. The maximum forecast time is 3 Months (?). The forecasted values are not guaranteed, but the likelihood increases as closer it is to the current time. Is there a time limit when the forecast is guaranteed?

The forecast contains real power consumption or generation. It may contain reactive power or effective CO emissions for generated power. 2

1. Historical Interval Energy is provided to the CEMS. There are four variants in this

step depending where the historical data is kept. a. The CEMS had its own history of energy consumption.

b. The CEMS retrieves historical energy consumption from the Energy Supplier.

c. CEMS retrieves historical energy consumption from an Energy Information Provider.

d. CEMS retrieves historical energy consumption from the Energy Services Company.

2. Onsite Generation Capacity and Availability is Determined. The capacity and

availability of any onsite generation equipment is provided to the CEMS by the onsite

equipment.

3. Onsite Electrical Storage Capacity and Availability is Determined. The capacity and

availability of any onsite electrical storage equipment is provided to the CEMS by the

onsite equipment.

4. Onsite Thermal Storage Capacity and Availability is Determined. The capacity and

availability of any onsite thermal storage equipment is provided to the CEMS by the

onsite equipment.

5. Weather Prediction Information is Determined. The predicted weather for the interval

being estimated is provided to the CEMS by Weather Service either directly, or via the

Energy Information Provider.

6. Historical Production Data is Determined. The historical production schedule that

correlates to the Historical Interval Energy is provided by the CEMS. 7. Initial Production Scheduling Information is Determined. The CEMS determines

production scheduling information for the interval being estimated. draft – short version

8. Production Schedule Energy Usage, and Energy Demand Forecast are Created.

The CEMS uses the Preliminary Interval Energy Usage, Energy Demand, and Energy

Pricing Information to create the Production Schedule and Energy Demand Forecast.

The Energy Demand Forecast is sent to the DSO and / or the energy provider.
