1. disagree with sb/sth反对，不赞成
→agree with sb/ one’s opinion/ one’s idea / one’s
views赞成 agree to sth 赞成 (如one’s advice/ suggestion/ proposal/ method/ plan) agree to do sth赞成干某事
agree on/ upon sth在…方面达成一致意见 2. The TV set has a two-year guarantee.（保修两年） …………has a guarantee of two years. ……………is guaranteed for two years.
3. succeed in sth/ doing sth 成功地干了某事 = manage to do sth = was/were able to do sth. be successful in sth/ doing sth→fail to do sth / fail in sth未能干成某事 e.g. The boy succeeded in swimming across the river. The student failed to pass the exam.
4. even 副词，“甚至”“即使”，表示强调 Even a child can understand the book. even if 连词，“即使”，引导让步状语从句 Even if the task is difficult, I’ll try hard to finish it.
5. ten, hundred, thousand, million, billion, dozen, score等，若前有数量词则用单数，且后面不能跟of，如two dozen
eggs；若后跟of则用复数，表示概数，强凋数量之多，如hundreds of people, dozens of apples.
6. be different from… 跟…不同 be different in… 在…方面不同 be similar to… 跟…相似 be similar in… 在…方面相似 be identical to/with… 跟…完全一样 = be the same as… 与…一样 7. find it difficult to do sth发现干某事很困难
v. + it + adj. + to do sth（it为形式宾语，真正的宾语为不定式） It + be + adj. + to do sth（it为形式主语，真正的主语为不定式）
e.g. It is necessary to learn a foreign language. → I think it necessary to learn a foreign language. 8. conversely = on the contrary = on the other hand相反地

在否定句或疑问句中必须用or连接，表示并列，虽译为“和” 16. discover发现（已有的事物） invent发明（尚无的事物） 17. instead of介词短语,
instead副词，都表示“不是…而是…”“而不是…”，常可转换。
e.g. I often go to school by bike instead of by bus.

He was afraid of failing in the exam. = He was afraid that he would fail in the exam. The girl is afraid of snakes.

e.g. Yesterday I received an invitation to a party, but I didn’t accept (it). 24. more… than… 比…更… , 与其说…还不如说… more than= over 超过，多于（后跟数量词） 25. be interested in sth= have/show (an) interest in sth
26. in order to do sth（句首、句尾均可）= so as to do sth（不可放在句首）表示目的,“为了…”→ in order that…/so that…（含情态动词）
e.g. We’d better hurry up in order to/ so as to catch the last bus. = In order that we can catch the last bus, we’d better hurry up. 27. 现在完成时 (have done)
主要有2种用法：（1）表示动作已完成（不接表示一段时间的状语）；（2）表示动作未完成（常接表示一段时间的状语，如 for…, since..）。第2 种用法可用现在完成进行时 (have been doing)代替，表示强调。
e.g. It has rained for 3 days.→ It has been raining for 3 day. cf. Who’s eaten my cake?（已吃完）
Who’s been eating my cake? （还剩点）都可译为“谁吃了我的蛋糕？” 28. on (the) one hand… on the other (hand) 一方面…另一方面…
29. might do well to do sth = had better do sth 不妨干某事，最好干某事（表示一种劝告） e.g. You might do well to see the doctor.
30. as conj. 像…一样（跟句子） We should learn the language as a child would learn. like prep. 像…一样（跟名词或代词） He looks likes his father. 注：固定搭配the same…as… , such… as…例外 31. in the new language/ in English “用”, 表示方式、途径

…as well as… 强调前者，谓语动词形式取决于前者 Not only the students but also the teacher is a football fan. = The teacher as well as the students is a football fan.
7. neither…nor…既不…也不… either…or…或者…或者…，要么…要么…
作主语时，谓语动词形式取决于后者 e.g. Neither you nor I am right. 8. at a/the table 坐在桌旁 at table 就餐
9. by常与完成时相呼应使用, 表示“到…（为止）” 表示将来→ 用将来完成时(will have done) 表示过去→ 用过去完成时(had done)
We will have learned all the texts by the end of next semester. I had finished the task by last night.
10. each time/every time 引导时间状语从句“每次…”“每当…”= whenever 11. when表示“正在那时突然”，有2 种用法
I was about/going to go out when it rained.（正要…时突然…）
