I first began experiencing anxiety and depression (抑郁) at the age of 14,after being bullied (欺凌) at school for years. While at first anxiety and depression would come and go,it eventually became a constant part of my life.
I was so eager to find the solution to overcoming my anxiety and depression that I tried everything from which I was in college to graduate school: mood-changing medication (药物),special teas, yoga, anything I read about in books, and advice given by doctors.Despite this,I still felt I hadn’t even come close to managing the problem.
But one afternoon,my eyes fell upon an article in a magazine talking about how dogs were able to help people with anxiety and depression. The next day,I decided to get a dog—a corgi. When I brought my little corgi,Buddy, home,I didn’t realize how much he would change my life.
Once the “puppy excitement” went away,my anxiety and depression came back as usual. One morning,I woke up with those familiar feelings again.I didn’t want to get out of bed.I turned to pull the covers back over my head and give up.That’s when I saw Buddy.
Buddy started jumping all over me,licking my face, and letting me know that it was time to go outside. It was as if he were saying,“There’s no time to be sad!The world is amazing!” And I realized for the first time,my life was changing.I really was a new person. This was my new beginning.
It’s been more than a year since that day,and I’ve never spent another morning unable to get out of bed.I’ve not cried myself to sleep or spent my days stuck with fear and regret.Sure,I still have days when I feel sad or anxious. But with Buddy,my best friend,by my side,I’ve finally learned how to manage these feelings and emotions. 24.Which cannot describe the author before she got a corgi? William Faulkner kept the words flowing with his favorite drink.Ernest Hemingway stopped writing just when the story got good,so he’d always know where to pick up the next day.
But perhaps the next generation (一代) of writers may receive help from robots that do the hard work for them.A new technology, put forward by Robin Sloan,an American author,is to use artificial intelligence (人工智能) (AI) to provide ideas for a novel,an email or other articles when a writer is searching for the best way to express him or herself.
“They can use grammar and put words together in interesting ways,” Robin Sloan said at the Real Future Fair.Sloan created a writing bot (a computer program) and had it read all of his old science-fiction (科幻) magazines from the 1960s and 1970s.The program read and learned the styles(风格)of those old-school stories.
At the fair,Sloan worked with the audience to create the beginning of a story: “A long, long time from now in Oakland there was a robot designed to destroy all the high families. The high families were the ones of course who owned the seasons.”
Let’s be honest. This is not a novel like one written by US writer Ray Bradbury. But something very similar to this writing bot could be a useful tool for gaining inspiration.
“I am 100 percent sure that some years from now it will be used in a lot of situations,” Sloan said.
For example,AI programs could read all of a company’s emails,so that an employee who is trying to get a point across will have suggestions that are in keeping with the company’s style,Sloan said.Or perhaps the next big movie hit will be written by screenplay writers who get excellent ideas from a writing bot,he said. 28.How may AI help the new generation of writers?
A.It will help them learn from other writers. B.It will correct mistakes in their novels. C.It will help them create their story. D.It will teach them new knowledge. 29.What do we learn about the writing bot’s story?
A.It was written by Sloan and his audience. B.It based its style on old science fiction. C.It described a high family of robots. D.It was similar to Bradbury’s stories. 30.What do the examples in the last paragraph show?
A.Robots need to be more creative. B.The writing bot has disadvantages.
C.AI programs will have many different uses. D.Different writing bots have different styles. 31.What is the purpose of the text?
A.To report a new AI technology. B.To describe some great writers. C.To show the importance of AI. D.To explain some AI programs.

Students at St.Peter’s Lutheran School are helping fight hunger in Guatemala by volunteering with Love the Hungry,a non-profit (非营利的) organization.
The school’s student body helped package 20,000 meals for the organization based in Louisville,Kentucky. St.Peter’s Lutheran has worked with the organization over the last few years. But this year it provided more help by asking a larger part of its students to take part, said Scott Krueger,a parent of three daughters who attend the school. Students wearing gloves lined up on both sides of tables set up in the school’s gym as part of the packaging step. The job required scooping (舀取) food such as rice and other food from a large box that were provided by Love the Hungry. Krueger, who also was volunteering for Love the Hungry, said he felt it was important for students to take part in it and see the importance of their work during the Sept.13 event. “This is one way to try to give back,” Krueger said.
Love the Hungry, which was created in 2012,gives great attention to packaging healthy meals that can prevent malnutrition (营养不良)in young children, said Dale Oelker, the director.
Other than Guatemala,Love the Hungry also offers food to Nicaragua,El Salvador,Haiti and countries in West Africa such as Sierra Leone,Mali and Sudan.
Fifth-grader Sydney Johnson was among the hundreds of students who helped and said she felt it was important to make a difference for the hungry people.
“It makes me feel good how we all helped out,” Johnson said.
Love the Hungry plans to offer 100,000 to 150,000 meals to Guatemala before the end of the year,Oelker said. “It’s a part of the world that this type of meal can really help,” said Oelker.“We are glad to work with St.Peter’s Lutheran School and it proves how volunteers of all ages can make a difference.” 32.What can we learn from Krueger’s words?
A.The job of the students was a bit difficult. B.The event attracted more volunteers from the school.
C.The students realized the importance of giving back. D.Love the Hungry has a long history of helping the poor. 33.How does Love the Hungry help fight hunger in Guatemala?
A.By offering food to the country’s kids. B.By giving money to the country’s people. C.By teaching the locals how to grow nice. D.By providing packaged meals to the country. 34.What did Oelker express in the last paragraph?

Last summer I went to a beach with my family. It was the first time that I have seen the sea,so I was very exciting when we arrived there. The sun was shining but the sea was so beautiful! I rushed the water quickly, which made me feel good. But about half a hour later, the sun was disappeared and it began to rain. The wave was kind of scary. My father asked me to go home.I wanted to stay, hoped that the rain would stop soon. But it didn’t,so I went home disappointedly, thinking of all the funs I missed. It was so a pity that he had only played for 30 minutes.
