You know how important your heart is, so it’s no wonder people worry when they hear someone has heart problems.

Heart disease, also called cardiovascular disease, mainly affects older people and means that there are problems with the heart and blood vessels. You might know someone who has cardiovascular disease because 61 million Americans have some form of it. This disease includes a variety of problems, including high blood pressure, hardening of the arteries, chest pain, heart attacks, and strokes.

What Is Heart Disease?

The heart is the center of the cardiovascular system. Through the body’s blood vessels, the heart pumps blood to all the body’s cells. The blood carries oxygen, which the cells need. Cardiovascular disease is a group of problems that occur when the heart and blood vessels aren’t working the way they should.

How Do You Get Heart Disease?

Heart disease isn’t contagious (接触传染的)--- you can’t catch it like you catch the flu or a cold. Instead, certain things increase a person’s chances of getting cardiovascular disease. Doctors call these things risk factors.

Some of these risk factors a person can’t do anything about, like being older and

having other people in the family who have had the same problems. But people do have control over some risk factors--- smoking, having high blood pressure, being overweight, and not exercising can increase the risk of getting cardiovascular.

Can Kids Get Heart Disease?

Kids usually don’t have any symptoms of heart and blood vessel problems. But by starting heart-healthy habits right now, kids can reduce the chance they will ever need to worry about cardiovascular disease.

So what should you do? Don’t smoke, for one. And be sure to eat healthy, exercise, and maintain a healthy weight. Your heart and blood vessels will thank you later!

21. Which of the following about heart disease is WRONG according to Paragraph 2?

A. It is also called cardiovascular disease. B. It merely has a great effect on old people.

C. It means suffering problems with the heart and blood vessels. D. Many Americans have the disease in all kinds of forms. 22. Many risk factors can be controlled EXCEPT .

A. being overweight B. getting older C. not exercising D. smoking 23. What’s the main purpose of the text?

A. To offer some information to protect our heart. B. To persuade us to live a healthy life. C. To tell us what is heart disease

D. To provide advice on how to treat heart disease.

A building seemingly built out of 21 blocks of LEGOs will greet those on flights landing in Billund, Denmark. The newly built LEGO House now shares the city with LEGOLAND. But unlike the theme park, the LEGO House offers the community more public spaces and a hands-on way of communicating with one of the world's most favorite toys.

The LEGO House is both a playhouse and a display of excellent pieces of LEGO artwork.

The Masterpiece Gallery shows the fan-made art of the plastic bricks, including impressive(印象深刻的)models of many real-life objects. The History Collection describes the rise of the LEGO Group. But the guests won't be stuck admiring sculptures(雕刻作品), and they get to build their own pieces brick by brick too.

There are four play areas inside the building which are in different colors. Each stands for important developmental skills in children.Red is for creativity; blue is for cognitive(认知)skills; green is for social skills; yellow for emotions(情绪).These areas, as well as the gallery and history collection, require guests to prebook a $31 ticket.

Instead of being just a tourist attraction, the LEGO Group wants the place to become a sort of meeting place for the company's hometown. Other areas in the LEGO House are free to enter.

These include the 2,000-square-meter LEGO Square, outdoor play areas, the

LEGO store, and three restaurants.

In one of the LEGO House's restaurants, visitors order food by putting blocks together and scanning them. While real humans do the cooking, cool LEGO robots deliver the food to the crowd and answer questions.

Third generation owner of the LEGO Group has this to say:\they learn the basic skills that they need, such as creativity, collaboration(合作)and problem-solving abilities.”

24. What is the LEGO House like?

A. It has the same function as the theme park. B. It is actually built out of 21 blocks of LEGOs.

C. It can be described as a playhouse and an art gallery. D. It will be a place where locals greet guests flying there.

25. Besides appreciating impressive artwork, what else can guests do? A. Search for real-life objects. B. Display the fan-made artwork. C. Describe the rise of the LEGO Group. D. Build their own artwork with bricks. 26. Why are the four play areas in different colors? A. They stand for different ticket prices. B. They stand for different age groups.

C. They stand for different skills that children need. D. They stand for children from different countries.

27. What can guests do to get their meals in the LEGO restaurants? A. Cook meals by themselves. B. Order food by scanning blocks. C. Get LEGO robots to order food. D. Cooperate with other visitors.

Being compared to great people like Stephen Hawking and Albert Einstein is not something that happens to the average person. At the age of just 23, Sabrina Gonzalez Pasterski has already achieved much more goals than most of us ever willing our lifetime.

When she was only 14 years old, the Chicago girl made her own single engine airplane-by herself. She then flew it across Lake Michigan, becoming the youngest person to ever fly their own plane.

She graduated from Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy( IMSA)in 2010 and entered Masachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

At first, she had to wait to be accepted into the school, but once Professors Allen Haggerty and Earll Murman watched her video they had no doubt. Femalista quoted Haggerty as saying: After just three years at MIT she has already achieved the highest possible grade point average of 5.0.

She is now studying further at Harvard University, with full academic freedom. Once again she is only 23 years old.

What's even more impressive is that she is no longer interested in building planes but has turned her attention to physics, namely black holes and how gravity ( 重 力 ) affects space and time 一 that is why she is being compared to Einstein and Hawking.

Pasterski records all of her work on her website Physics Girl, but if you are a little shocked by her achievements she has some words for you.

During an interview with Marie Claire earlier this year she said: Being optimistic about what you believe you can do.When you're little, you say a lot of things about what you'll do or be when you're older-I think it's important not to forget those dreams.”

28.Why does the author mention Einstein and Hawking at the beginning? A.To honour the two scientists. B.To compare the two scientist. C.To bring out the key character. D.To introduce their achievements. 29.What might be the right order of the events about Pasterski? a.Study at Harvard University. b.Wait to be accepted by MIT.

c.Achieve grade point average of 5.0. d.Graduate from IMSA in 2010.

e.Make a single engine airplane by herself. A.edcba. B.edbca. C.decab. D.deacb. 30.What is even more impressive about Pasterski? A. She has full academic freedom at Harvard. B. She records all of her work on her website.

C. She becomes the youngest person to fly a plane. D. She is interested in some special fields of physics.

31. According to Paserski, which are the important qualities that people need to succeed?

A. Independence and concentration B. concentration and optimistic C. Optimistic and determination D. Friendliness and determination

Climate change, not human hunting, may have destroyed the thylacine(袋狼), according to a new study based on DNA from thylacine bones.

The meat-eating marsupials( 有袋动物)died out on mainland Australia a few thousand years ago, but survived in Tasmania, an island of southeast Australia separated from the mainland, until the 1930s.Until now, scientists have believed the cause of this mainland extinction(灭绝)was increased activity from native Australians and dingoes(Australian wild dogs).

Scientists behind the University of Adelaide study, which was published in the Journal of Biogeography on Thursday, collected 51 new thylacine DNA samples from fossil( 化 石 )bones and museum skins. The paper concluded that climate change starting about 4,000 years ago was likely the main cause of the mainland extinction.

The ancient DNA showed that the mainland extinction of thylacines was rapid, and not the result of loss of genetic diversity(基因多样性). There was also evidence of a population crash ( 大 跌 )in thylacines in Tasmania at the same period of time, reducing their numbers and genetic diversity.

Professor Jeremy Austin said Tasmania would have been protected from mainland Australia's warmer, drier climate due to its higher rainfall. He argued that climate change was“the only thing that could have caused, or at least started, an extinction on the mainland and caused a population crash in Tasmania.”

“They both occurred at about the same time, and the other two things that have
