(1) kind用作名词时，意为“种类”，常和介词of连用，后面接名词。表示一种时，就用“a kind of +名词”，名词前面不加冠词；如果表示几个不同的种类时，就用“数词+ kinds + of +名词”，后面跟名词的复数。如： A dog is a kind of animal. 狗是一种动物。
There are three kinds of balls on the table. 桌子上有三种球。 (2)kind作形容词时，意为“友好的；善良的”。如： The old woman is very kind and we all like her. 这个老妇人很善良，我们都喜欢她。 be kind to意为“对……友好”。如：
Mr. Smith is always kind to these small cats. 史密斯先生对这些小猫一直很好。 My new friend is very kind to me.我的新朋友对我很友好。 跟踪练习

Maple is the symbol of Canada. 枫叶是加拿大的象征。
The national flag is the symbol of a country. 国旗是一个国家的象征。 The lion is the symbol of courage. 狮子是勇敢的象征。 3. But elephants are in great danger.
但是大象处在极大危险中。 danger作名词，意为“危险”。如： Call 110 if you are in great danger.

Is there any danger of fire? 有遭受火灾的危险吗？
关于danger的短语，还有out of danger, 意为“脱离危险”。如： Don’t worry. She is out of danger now. 别担心，她现在已经脱离危险了。
dangerous是danger 的形容词形式，意为“危险的”。如： It’s dangerous to swim in this river. 在这条河里游泳很危险。
Don’t play basketball here. It’s dangerous! 别在这儿玩篮球。很危险！ 4. We must save the trees and not buy things made of ivory. 我们必须挽救树木而且不买象牙制品。
be made of意为“用……材料制成”，强调物理变化，即可以看出原材料是什么。如： Windows are made of glass.
窗户是用玻璃制成的。(可以看出原材料)
(1)be made from 同样意为“用……材料制成”，但其强调化学变化，即不可以看出原材料是什么。如：
The paper is made from wood 纸是由木材制成的。(不可以看出原材料)
(2)be made in 意为“由……生产/ 制造”。in 后加表示地点的词。 如： The car is made in China. 这辆汽车是由中国制造的。 跟踪练习
