Feeding babies one egg a day for six months can significantly increase their levels of choline(胆碱) and DHA,both of which are involved in brain health,a study found.

?One egg a day for six months increases youngsters’ levels of choline and DHA. ?Both of these nutrients are involved in maintaining brain health. ?Previous research shows eggs increase growth in babies.

?Researchers say eggs are designed to support the growth of organisms. ?Compared to other foods, eggs are relatively affordable and more nutritious.

Lead author Lora Iannotti from the Brown School at Washington University said,“Like milk or seeds, eggs are designed to support the early growth and development of an organism and are, therefore, important in the nutrient content.Eggs provide important fatty acids, proteins, choline, vitamins A and B12,selenium(硒),and other important nutrients at levels above or comparable to those found in other animal food products, but they are relatively more affordable.”

The researchers analyzed 163 babies aged between six and nine months from Ecuador in 2015.Of the babies,80 were fed one egg a day for six months, while the others were given none.Their vitamin and mineral levels were assessed via blood tests.

Results show babies who eat eggs have significantly higher levels of choline and DHA,both of which play a vital role in brain development and function.

As a result of the study, the Ecuadorian government has already suggested that babies as young as seven months can safely be given eggs.Lora Iannotti says it’s not clear yet which of

B.Adults. D.Parents. B.risky D.clean

these nutrients might be the most important, but the group plans further work to find out. Some evidence suggests choline could have an important role in growth.“They’re a high quality food that should probably be given to young children in all countries,” Iannotti says.
