Jack Ma is the founder and CEO of Alibaba Group. He was one of the 100 global “future leaders” of the 2001 World Economic Forum and the “commercial leader” of 2001 elected by US Commercial Association of Asia.
Born in the city of Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, Ma graduated from Hangzhou Teachers Institute in 1988 (he failed the entrance exam twice) and became a lecturer in English and International Trade.
In 1985, a one-month visit to see an Australian pen pal he had met in Hangzhou changed his life. “Everything I’d learned in China was that China was the richest country in the world,” he said. “When I arrived in Australia, I realized it’s totally different. I started to think you have to use your own mind to judge, to think.” After his return, Ma became the chairman of the Students’ Union of the whole city.
Jack Ma founded Alibaba.com in 1999, a China based business to business marketplace site. In 2003, Alibaba launched Taobao.com, a consumer to consumer auction (消费者拍卖) website similar to eBay.
Ma said that he got most of his ideas while taking very long, hot showers. He likes to spend time walking his four dogs and playing chess and poker. He said, “I’ve learned a lot of business philosophy by playing poker.”

Do I really need a helmet just to ride to class?
First, ask your physics professor what can happen to a head dropped from the normal height where you ride, say about 5 feet up, when it hits the walkway? He will tell you about the forces the head can experience from that drop height. Bike helmets are tested in a two-meter drop, a little higher, but that five feet is all the force you need to mess up your brain. You don’t need forward speed at all, although it can make it worse.
Then think about accidents that happen when you ride on campus. Have you had near-collisions(碰撞) or actual collisions with pedestrians as the students change class? Do you ever hurry to get to class and take little chances? Have you ever seen a patch of ice or sand on a campus sidewalk? We would bet that you know more risk factors than we do.
And what do the statistics say? There are 800 people killed on bikes, and a half million, more or less injured, in the US every year. Nobody keeps track of how many of those were on a campus. But we do know that you are making a major investment in yourself for a lifetime of good returns. People with head injuries can remember how much more they were able to do mentally before the crash, and that hurts long after other parts heal(愈合). The effects can last forever. At your age you are just beginning to realize how much
pleasure in life comes from being experienced, smart and educated. You don’t want to take a chance with that. It means a lot to you.

Heading off to college this year? Here are some fashion tips from our experts you should keep in mind:
Dress to impress: Stylist and business consultant Daniela Smith says, “Girls should keep in mind that your college professors will often be the bridge that connects you to your future career and your classmates will become your professional network. You don’t need to dress like you’re going to the office, but you should display an ability to properly present yourself with appropriate maturity and confidence, and look put together.”
Logo mania (品牌狂热症): Wearing the logos of brands aimed at younger customers physically identifies you as part of that age group, so consider the targeted age group of the stores you shop at.It’s tempting (诱人的) to load up on logos, especially well-known logos that signify high-end brands. But consider this: college is a time of self-discovery, a chance to develop your own personal style.Instead of wearing logos head to toe, “walking advertisement”-style, why not express who you really are?
Wear real pants! The combination of leggings and baggy shirts is all too common on college campuses.Smith points out that leggings, yoga pants, and sweatpants are entirely
