Petra flourished for more than 400 years at about the time of Rome and Christ, until it was occupied by the Roman legions of the Emperor Trajan in 106 AD.

Petra has 800 monuments, including buildings, tombs, baths, halls, temples and streets, which were mostly carved in the pretty sandstone.

Petra's sights are at their best in early morning and late afternoon.Once the sun warms the colourful stones, you will see the greatness of Petra. It was seen first when discovered in 1812 after being lost through the 16th century for nearly 300 years!
