What has scales(鳞片) and curl into a ball? Pangolins!
Pangolins is a name coming from the Malaysian word “pengguling”, which means “rolling over”, as they are able to roll themselves up into a ball when facing danger. The scales, covering most their bodies, are quite protective. If other animal gets caught between the scales, it can get a serious cut.
Pangolins live mainly on ants and some other insects. With small heads and no tooth, pangolins have very long, strong and sticky(黏的) tongues that are perfect for getting ants in the deep holes. Though little is known, pangolins are greatly killed for their meat and scales. Most Asian people believe the scales can have medical purposes. But according to recent research, the scales actually are no good medicine, as they are made from the same thing that also forms human hair and fingernails.
