第二部分阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
A
When most people think of the word “beautiful”, they think of models and movie stars. I recognize I used to be one of them. But now my view of beauty has totally changed. I discovered what true beauty really is the other day in the McDonald’s.
I was with my parents and little brothers at the McDonald’s. Since there are only tables with four chairs, I’m always the one to sit at a nearby table by myself. Usually, I’m a little unhappy, but not this time.
A Mexican woman was sitting at a table, two tables away, and I could tell that in her youth she was pretty, not the traditional beauty, but a warm one. Her thick dark- brown hair was pulled back and she wore casual clothes, but none of this was why she was so beautiful to me.
When she smiled, it was like all the good things in the world came into being. When her children spoke to her, even the two-year-old, she listened carefully as if nothing else in the world mattered more. The two-year-old spread(铺开)ice cream all over her face, and the mother just kissed her nose, ice cream and all. She didn’t get angry when her daughter got ice cream on her clothes. The love and warmth this woman generated(产生)completely changed my view of beauty. She generated warmth like the sun, and her children were little planets around her.
She made me realize that the truly beautiful women are the ones like this mother. She makes a difference in her children’s lives. Instead of making them feel bad about themselves, she makes
them feel great about everything. That is true beauty: to make a positive difference in another’s life through warmth and caring. Unknowingly, she has done that, not only for her kids, but the lonely girl ,who had the good fortune to sit near her and share her warmth. 21.How did the author reform her new view of beauty?
A. By learning from her mother. B. Through an experience in the McDonald’s. C. From her work and social experience. D. By the influence from her close friends, 22.How many people were there in the author’s family?
A. 3. B. 4. C. 5. D. 6. 23.The Mexican mother was beautiful to the author for ______.
A. she was young and friendly. B. she showed great love and warmth
C. she was a traditional beautiful woman D. She had dark brown hair and white skin 24.What did the author compare the Mexican mother to ?
A. The sun B. The planet. C. The tree. D. The rose.

Body language is the quietest, most secret and most powerful language of all. It is said that our body movements communicate about 50% of what we really mean while words themselves only do 7%. So while your mouth is closed, just it is your body language that is saying.
When it comes to body language at the office, you may be making some big mistakes that could cause you trouble. The following are some tips on what you should not do when using body language at your office.
Don’t touch your co-workers, even if it’s on the back of the arm or shoulder. Many of your co-workers are not comfortable with any body contact(接触)with others. Be careful not to touch everyone at your office.
Don’t avoid eye contact. Eyes can speak. Lack of eye contact means cheat, and it can also point to no safety or lack of confidence. Trust and confidence are things you will communicate to the other person if you hold eye contact 50% of the time.
Don’t have a bad handshake. You’re going to show your kindness at once with a firm palm(手掌)to palm handshake. Showing the palms of your hands is an amiable gesture as it shows that you have a peaceful purpose. It means acceptance, and that you’re open to new ideas. Be careful of the dead fish handshake.
Don’t lean(倾斜) your head while listening to others. When listening to others, you should listen to him or her carefully with your head straight. For women especially, you think you are expressing interest by leaning your head when you are listening to others, but you actually come across as if you don’t understand what’s going on. 25. Workers at the world’s largest hydroelectric plant(水电站)show they have a head for heights as they get to work. But these brave workers at the great Three Gorges Dam insist their job is nothing out of the ordinary, although there is the heart-stopping scenery below them.
