Kind people are naturally drawn to places that claim to offer rare animals safety and are eager to see elephants paint, to hug baby bears or to swim with dolphins. However, being frequently exposed has shown that many of these businesspeople are breeders, dealers or exhibitors that are using stars’ goodwill for their own ends.

In some Asian countries, elephants are kept in camps. A few camps are working to help elephants in trouble, but the vast majority are not, and training methods are barbaric. As soon as the cameras are gone after someone like Prince William takes a photo with an elephant, the chains go back on.

Fans, tell the stars: Stay away from wild animal photos, and the animals will be grateful. Of course, you don’t have to be famous to make a difference. Whether right here at home or at an exotic place abroad, every one of us must fight the desire to take a photo with an elephant or hug a baby tiger.

My house is made out of wood, glass and stone. It is also made out of software.

If you come to visit, you’ll probably be surprised when you come in. Someone will give you an electronic PIN (个人身份号码) to wear. This PIN tells the house who and where you are. The house uses this information to give you what you need. When it’s dark outside, the PIN turns on the lights nearest you, and then turns them off as you walk away from them. More than 11,000 athletes from around the world have arrived in Rio de Janciro, hoping to take home Olympic glory for their home countries. Unluckily, only a handful will achieve those dreams--- and what’s worse, some might go bankrupt(破产) in the process.

Usually, the United States doesn’t spend a lot on its athletes. For the 2012 Olympic Games in London, the U.S. Olympic Committee had a budget of nearly $800 million, of which just 10.3% directly supported the athletes. That includes allowance, medical benefits and tuition assistance. Even if they win an Olympic medal, athletes aren’t guaranteed a rich payday. The U.S. Olympic Committee awards team members a bonus for winning a medal: $25,000 for gold, ,000 for silver, and $10,000 for bronze.

It’s a common misunderstanding that Olympic athletes all benefit from commercial advertisements and sponsors(赞助). While that’s true of Olympic super stars like Michael Phelps, who has signed well-paid deals, many sports especially those that don’t enjoy great media attention and air time don’t pay well, even for athletes at the top of their game.

Many sporting super stars struggle to pay the bills for Olympic

glory---not to mention the costs for traveling to Rio to compete---balancing their demanding training and competition schedules with a full-time career, or a series of par-time jobs. American runner Kerron Clement, who took home medals in Beijing and is competing in the Rio Games this year, has worked as model and an actor. Emil Milev, a six-time Olympian in shooting, is a physical education teacher at a primary school in Tampa. Cyclist Mara Abbott works at the local farmer’s market in her hometown of Boulder, Colorado. She also teaches Yoga and writes for a local newspaper. 32.Some American athletes might go bankrupt because _________.

33.Who works as an actor to pay the bills to take part in the Olympics?

A. Michael Phelps B. Emil Milev C. Kerron Clement D. Mara Abbott

34.What is the author’s attitude towards the athletes?

A. Curious B. Proud C. Unsatisfied D. Pitiful 35.What can we infer from the text?

A. More than 11,000 athletes have taken home Olympic glory.

B. Some top players whose sports lack media attention aren’t well paid.

C. Emil Milev has taken part in the Olympics for five times.

D. A gold medal winner will get $15,000 more than a silver one. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
