听力材料 Text 1
M: It’s already six o’clock. The meeting will begin in ten minutes. How can we get there in time?
W: Don’t worry. I put the clock twenty minutes forward. Text 2
M: Sing Soft Kitty to me.
W: Soft Kitty is for when you’re sick. But you’re not sick. M: Injured and drugged is a kind of sick. Text 3
M: Would you like it short or long at the back? W: Quite short.
M: And…uh…doesn’t it bother you having so much grey hair at your age? W: No, I like it. Text 4 M: Sarah?
W: Here! In my bedroom.
M: The day after tomorrow, this Wednesday, is Gerald’s birthday. Tony suggested that we should hold a party for him. Text 5
W: Do you like this painting? I bought it last week. M: Yes, it’s lovely. I like the color of the houses.
W: I nearly bought the one with some boats and there was a really beautiful one with mountains, but that was too big. Text 6
W: Hey Chris. What time did you say you needed to go downtown to the mechanic’s? I have some time today. How about I drive you there?
M: Great. They originally said at 2:00 pm, but the shop called to tell me that the car will be ready by 1:00 pm. Could we go down there by then?
W: No problem, but I must be back at the house by 3 o’clock. The city building inspector is coming around then to check the house.
M: Oh, don’t worry about that! You’ll be back at the house long before he comes. Text 7
W: Oh, where are they? M: Who?
W: I went to get this CD for a madam and her husband. Now I can’t find them. M: What do they look like?
W: Well, she’s very tall with short red hair. Her husband is tall and thin with curly black hair.
M: I don’t see anyone like that. What are they wearing?
W: The woman is wearing a white skirt and a purple sweater. The man is wearing a red sweater and blue jeans.
M: Hey, wait! I think I see them in the classical section.
Text 8
M: What is that on the floor?
W: I’m not sure. It looks like wet mud, but I haven’t been outside today. Have you?
M: No. I mean, we just woke up about two hours ago. We haven’t had time to get the house dirty. Look, there are dark marks all over the house! What in the world could they be?
W: Well, they’re definitely from someone’s shoes. You can tell by the shape. And I’ve been wearing my slippers all morning, so it can’t be me. M: Hmm, it looks like the marks come off pretty easily.
W: I think they’re from your black shoes, honey. Try walking down the hall and I see if you make any marks on the floor.
M: OK…well, what do you know? It was me the whole time! Text 9
M: Hi, Emily, how was your day?
W: To be honest, it was terrible! My manager is such a pain in the neck! M: What happened?
W: Well, he made quite a few mistakes in the monthly report, and when his supervisor found them, he blamed them on me! M: That’s not fair. What did you do?
W: There wasn’t really anything that I could do. If I had said anything, he would have fired me for sure though I have worked there for five years. M: Does he treat everyone in your department like this? W: Yes. He treats everyone badly, but he treats me worse!
M: Do you have any idea why he treats you worse than the others? W: No.
M: Is there anyone else you can talk with about it in your company? W: No. I’m hoping to live with it for a while until I get a raise. M: That’s sensible.
W: I try to be sensible about it, but it’s not very easy. Sometimes you just have to bear it.
M: That’s true. Text 10 M: Exams! The very mention of it makes me feel ill! I try to make my review techniques practical but it never seems to work. The first thing I do is make a detailed timetable of which subjects I’m going to study. I also plan how long I’ll spend on each one and how much I should get done. But unfortunately I never seem to stick to this! I normally end up finding out something more interesting to do, like watching TV. When it gets to the night before the exam, I usually end up staying up all night studying. One time I fell asleep on the bus on the way to the exam center and was late for the exam! The thing that usually gets me about exams is timing. I always spend much time on the first question and have to rush through the rest. I really hate it when you come out of the exam room and everyone starts saying “What did you put for Number 2?” It just stresses me out, so I avoid everyone, go straight
home and try not to think about it until the results come out!
