A comparison of learning styles in college and high school
After a semester of College life, I clearly felt that there is a certain gap between the University and the previous high school in terms of the style of life and learning. Today, I will analyze the similarities and differences in learning styles between in universities and in middle schools from my personal point of view.
From the perspective of specialty, the purpose of university education is to train specialized talents, while the purpose of secondary education is to train talents with basic qualities. Therefore, students in universities usually take one major course as the main course and other courses as the supplement, while students in middle schools need to take the overall development of all subjects into account. This also leads to the fact that college students usually think and solve problems from the perspective of professional major, while middle school students may analyze problems from the perspective of different subjects.
Secondly, from the perspective of initiatives, middle school education tends to let teachers lecture for students regularly, while universities are inclined to students' initiative to ask questions and seek answers to teachers after they have questions and curiosity. In this mode, middle school students tend to develop the habit of relying on teachers, asking teachers without thinking when they encounter problems, lacking the ability to think independently. Contrarily, college students will try their best to solve
problems by themselves through various methods. In the meanwhile, middle school students tend to be passive in their learning process, while college students tend to be active and positive in their attitude.
Generally speaking, there are some deficiencies in the learning styles of middle schools compared with those of universities, but there are also many learning styles worth learning from for college students, such as divergent thinking, multi-angle analysis methods and so on. Only by dialectically integrating the two is the most suitable learning method for us.
