pointed (尖的) mouths. This kind of mouth can help them find insects in the trees. They are sure that forests are the best place for them to live in.
Over half of the world’s plants and animals live in rainforests (热带雨林). But more and more trees in the rainforests are cut down for wood and many of the rainforests have been turned into fields for growing rice and vegetables.
Some scientists say that one kind of animal is lost from the Earth every half an hour as these rainforests are gone. Many animals need the rainforests to live in. When the trees are cut down, they have no place to live in or to get food from. Then many animals are made to live near towns and cities to get food. As a result, a lot of animals are killed by people or cars each year. ( ) 1. One tree can give some animals _______________. Do you think “Rock, Paper, Scissors (剪刀、石头、布)” is a children’s game? Think again. The top players from around the world came together in Toronto to compete for a 10,000-Canadian-dollar prize and the title of World Champion on December 17, 2016. More than 500 players, including the national champions from Australia, Norway and New Zealand, attended.
The simple game is often used to make decision (决定) and solve simple problems. The players hold their fists (拳头) closed and count to three before making a fist (Rock), a flat hand (Paper) or two fingers (Scissors). Paper covers Rock, Scissors cut Paper and Rock breaks Scissors.
People have different opinions about the history of the game, but it is commonly (通常地) believed to have been played for centuries in China. The Paper Scissors Stone Club opened in England in 1842 and then the players could play together there. In 1918, the name was changed to the World RPS Club and its headquarters (总部) moved from London to Toronto. The world championship started in 2002, and is held once every year.
