You may think what you say on WeChat is your own business, but apparently the foreign authorities don’t agree. In other words, you need to be fully aware of the items you’re not allowed to bring before you travel abroad.

Obscene(淫秽)and pirated(盗版)materials

In many Western countries, possessing and transporting underage porn(黄色书刊)is considered a serious crime. According to the United States Department of Justice, a first time offender(冒犯者) charged with producing child porn faces fines and 15 to 30 years in prison. The website of UK Visas and Immigration also listed pirated copies of movies and music as illegal, because they infringe(侵犯) upon intellectual property(财产) rights. If you’re caught bringing pirated products into the UK, the products will be confiscated(没收),and you may face prosecution(起诉). Food, animals and plants

According to Australia’s Department of Immigration(移民) and Border Protection, Australia has strict quarantine laws. Animals from overseas could bring diseases and pests into the country and destroy the local environment. Cash

C.Ask for permission.

There is a limit of cash you can bring when traveling abroad. According to UK Visas and Immigration, the maximum amount of cash(including bankers’ drafts and checks) you can bring into the country is £10,000(72,000 yuan). You’ll have to declare it if you’re brining more, or you could face a fine of up to £5,000 (46,000 yuan). But if you’re entering the UK from another European Union country, you don’t need to declare your cash, no matter how much you have. Other items

Customs rules vary from country to country. For example, when entering Australia you also need to declare traditional medicines because they may contain endangered plant or animal products. Heritage-related goods, including artworks and stamps, also need to be declared. This is why you should always check the local customs(海关) website to make sure of what you can put into your luggage, and of course, your electronic devices.

21.What can we know from the passage?

A.Travelers should declare their cash when entering the UK from Germany B.Both the USA and the UK have laws against obscene and pirated materials

C.You can bring more than £10,000 without declaring when you enter the UK from China D.Taking traditional medicines to Australia may destroy the local environment

22.Which of the following items may be allowed to bring without declaring when you enter Australia? A.Traditional medicines B.Pet dogs and cats

C.Stamp albums D.Story books

23.Where is the article above probably taken from?

A.A travel brochure B.A fashion magazine C.An exhibition guide D.A science report

A 60-year-old homeless woman named Smokie has been sleeping outside in the dirt a few doors down from a man named Elvis Summers.

Most mornings, she stops by Elvis’s Los Angeles apartment and asks if he has any recyclables for her. Through these conversation, they struck up a friendship. One morning, Elvis saw a news article about a man in Oakland who has been making tiny houses out of discarded material. He was inspired to put off paying a few bills so he could buy the lumber and hardware to make Smokie a brand new shelter. It took him five days to build, and now, for the first time in ten years, Smokie has a place to hang the sign, ―Home Sweet Home.‖

I had nowhere to really build it, so I just built it in the street outside of my apartment,‖ he told Good News Network. ―The local LAPD cops have been super cool, and have told me they support it–as long as we move it to a different spot every 72 hours.‖

He made this nifty time-lapse(延时的) video showing how he did it. The materials, including two locks on the front door and sturdy wheels for moving it around, cost him about $500.

―I’ve met so many homeless people, good people,‖ Elvis said in an email. ―Since I built Smokie’s, I’ve had several people ask me to make them a tiny home and it’s turned into much more than just the one house I wanted to build.‖

Although he runs an online retail store that sells EDM apparel, he decided to launch an ambitious project to fund more shelters. He plans to get lighter and cheaper materials—without sacrificing the strength of the house—for the next round. Rick Sassen, a branch manager, kindly donated the roof shingles and cedar siding for Smokie’s house, final items Elvis couldn’t afford on his own. Sassen has promised to work out a deal on future building materials for the same cause.

24.What is the meaning of the underlined words ―struck up‖ in paragraph 2? A.kept on

C.gave out

B.Established D.damaged

25.Where did Elvis’s inspiration to build a tiny house come from? A.A news report

C.A fiction story

B.A science book D.An advertisement

26.What is the main feature of the tiny house? A.It is air-conditioned

C.It can move around

B.It is very light D.It has no roof

27.What can be inferred about Elvis from the last paragraph?
