Greet the whole class as usual. Step Ⅱ Grammar
T:Now we are going to review the Predicative.Here are some sentences on the screen.Look at the sentences and tell what member of the sentence each underlined part is.
Meanwhile,pay attention to their functions and then translate them into Chinese.Discuss them in groups and write down the answers and anything you don’t understaned. Discuss the sentences: 1.What nationality is he?

T:Who will tell us what member of the sentence each underlined part is? Sa:I’ll try.They are all predicatives,as they are all after link-verbs.
T:Yes.The predicative comes after a link-verb,denoting the state,quality or status,etc. of the subject or,in order words,it serves to characterize the subject.Give their Chinese meaning,please.One student,one sentence. Sb:1.他是哪国人?

Sb:2.We should choose “terribly” here.It is not a predicative,but an adverbial,modifying “sorry”. Sc:3.The answer is A.When we express “某人是单身汉”,we say “somebody is single” in English.
S d:4.Here we need an adverb,modifying “look at”,so B is needed. S e:5.Here we should use an adjective as the predicative.
S f:6.We should choose A and B.The first is the predicative,and for the second we should choose an adverb used as an adverbial.
S g:7.We should choose “lonely” for the first blanket,meaning “孤独的”;and choose “alone” for the second,meaning “独自一个”.
S h:8.We should choose A and B.That’s to say,we should use “good” as the predicative and “well” as the adverbial.
S i:9.Here we should choose “turn”.“Turn writer” has the same meaning as “become a writer”. Step Ⅳ Practice
T:As we all know,the predicate verb must agree with its subject,that is to say,a singular subject takes a single verb,while a plural subject takes a plural verbs.However,sometimes when the subjects are the same,but the predicate verbs are different.Look at the sentences on the screen and choose a suitable verb for each of them.Pair work or group work.We’ll check the answers in a few minutes.
