在高级中学教科书（必修)英语第一册（上）第九单元的Reading Part “Life On the Go”第二段中有这样一句话“They are being used as cameras and radios ,and to send e-mail or surf the Internet 。”其中They are being used 用的是现在进行时的被动语态，其构成是：is/am/are +being+P。P（过去分词)表示现在正在被… 这句话的意思是：它们(手机）现在被人们当作照相机和收音机使用，还可以发送电子邮件和上网 .现在进行时的被动语态我们暂不讨论。让我们复习一下关于used 这一词的具体搭配和用法。

一．原文中含有两种结构，其中之一， be used as 。.意思是“被用作为\例如：①A burnt stick can be used as a pen 。烧焦的树枝可被用作笔来写字.我们再看另一个句子②This grammar book can be use as a textbook .这本语法书可被用作教科书来用。 Be used as 它的主动语态是use A as B 意思是把A 当作B用。如 You can use the burnt stick as a pen . 你可以把烧焦的树枝当作笔来写字。

二．be used to do.上面句中含有的“and to\实际上是They are being used to send e-mail or surf the Internet 的省略。我们抛开时态不谈,这里有be used to +do（动词原形）被用于…经常和be used for +n/ doing 替换。如：① Knives are used for cutting things . or Knives are used to cut things 。刀子被用来切东西.还有② Paper can be used for writing on 。 or Paper can be used to write on . 意思是纸可用来写字。

三．我们经常见到这一词组：be/get/become used to+ doing /n 表示习惯于(做）某事。连系动词可用各种时态形式，介词to 后可接名词或动词-ing形式。例如：① He has got used to getting up early 。 意思是 他已经习惯于早起.② You will soon get used to living in the country . 你会很快习惯于农村生活的。 ③ He is used to hard work . 意思是 他习惯于辛勤工作。

四．关于used 的另外一种搭配， 也是用的最频繁的，used to do 表示过去习惯的动作或状态，隐含有过去是那种情况，而现在已经不是那样了，具有过去与现在相反情况的对比。①如在课本第一册 第七单元课后练习中124 页，有这样一句话:First , the River Nile （尼罗河)used to flood（淹没）large areas every year and destroyed houses and crops 。 意思是尼罗河过去常常泛滥成灾，每年都淹没大片地区，还毁坏了房屋和庄稼.暗含之意现在经过治理已经不那样了.② He used to play cards a lot . 他过去常常玩牌。（隐含有他现在已经不玩牌了之意.） used to do 变成疑问句有下列两种形式:

Did you use to play football at school? 或 Used you to play football at school ?(你过去在学校里踢球吗？） 变成否定句时可用 used not to 或usedn’t to 口语中常用didn’t use to 如 He didn’t use to listen to the radio . or He

usedn’t to listen to the radio 。

五。used to do与would 的区别： Used to do 表示过去习惯性的动作或状态,而且现在已经不再是那种情况了。 Would 则只表示过去的习惯性动作,不能表示状态，而且动作有可能现在还存在。如① He used to play cards 。 他过去常常玩牌。（他现在已经不玩牌了。)② When I was young ， I would listen to the radio . 我小时经常听收音机。（现在有可能还在听，也可能不听)这两个句子都表示动作。另外涉及到状态只能用used to 不能用would .如 He used to be very fat . 他过去很胖。我们不能说成He would be very fat 。 因为 would 不能用于表示状态“胖” 。

总之，be used as , be used for , be used to do ， be used to doing /n , used to do ，would , 这几个词组非常容易让我们混淆，需要我们记住它们的细微区别,我们要在练习中巩固和掌握。
